I hope you did not take my initial comment about the word, as a slight towards you in any way. It was not meant to be. I was just commenting on a word that I believe is an oddity in the English language. I have used it many times on this forum, exactly as you used it. I probably should not have quoted you. not that anyone but me cares, but "possum" refers to a bunch of different species of marsupials in australia. "oppossum" refers to a bunch of different species of marsupials living not in australia. but i grew up in the south, so they are just all possums anyway. so neither of them is slang, they just get used incorrectly a lot.
