Amazing Spider-man Keys

64 posts in this topic

Spidey is my favorite title, but the word "key" usually refers to major first character appearances or other major milestones which are noteworthy to people who aren't diehard fans of the title. I don't disagree with Murph's or Dice's lists, but there are some 2nd, 3rd, and 4th appearances on them that I can't objectively call "key." The key list is more like the following:

1, 3, 4, 6, 9, 13, 14, 15, 20, 25, 39, 40, 41, 42, 50, 101, 121, 122, 129, 136, 194, 238, 298, 300, 363

All of these issues had elements which impacted both Spidey and other titles in one way or another. The only one I feel like leaving off is #1...the only thing distinctive about that one is the darned ISSUE number!!! sumo.gif

You just want the keys?

1-10, 13, 14, 15, 17, 20, 23, 25, 26-28, 31, 39-41, 42, 50-51, 96-98, 100-101, 121, 122, 129, 200, 238, 252, 298-300

It could be argued that there are more (or less) based on who you're talking to and whether they're a Spiderman fan.

Brian

This is a good list, but I'd add the following:

86 (first Black Widow in new costume), 136 (first Harry Osborn as Green Goblin), 194 (first Black Cat), 239 (first battle with Hobgoblin), 289 (death of Ned Leeds). Other than that, I don't know if I'd call much else in the run a key issue.

#2 (First Vulture) gossip.gif

Did he ever appear outside of Spidey?

Most of us wish he hadn't ever even appeared INSIDE of Spidey... Christo_pull_hair.gif

I like Vulture much more than Mysterio.

Mysterio is such a lame character.

But they made it into Ultimate Spider-Man. gossip.giftongue.gif

Which is why I said "hardly"...I was going to say "never" until I recalled Bendis using them as an aside to the normal powered-up villains everybody throws at Spidey.

I seem to recall Bendis confirming he'd never re-do a villain as lame as the Vulture... 893applaud-thumb.gif

I think it's fair to say that all ten of the first ten issues of ASM are key issues. Big Man and the Enforcers don't even really appear in the ASM title anymore, but I'd still consider it a key issue.
