Robot Man
Wow, that Crime Patrol 15 really blew the socks off TOT annual 1. Obviously it was the grade. Both were Roger Hill books but I was a little suprised. I still believe the TOT 1 is a bit more rare than the CP 15 but that is a tough one as well. Sadly, the ship has pretty much sailed for collectors of more “modest” means. In the past few years I had my chance at a CP 15 but was too slow on the draw twice. Might end up being that one big hole in my EC collection… Mmehdy, KirbyJack and IngelsFan 2

I can't imagine one going any less in the future PLOD or not. Sometimes (at least to me) rarity and price trump condition. C. Spaulding
Speaking of EC rarities, this is on eBay now. If it could actually be tied back to Russ it would be a pretty neat piece to own. $8k starting bid price. Mmehdy, KirbyJack and OtherEric

Who knows, it could almost be possible. I've got the first issues of TFTC, VOH, COT and the second issue of WS in mine. About as close as I can ever expect to get. KirbyJack and C. Story is he obtained the books from another famous collector that @sfcityduck has researched extensively. But I cannot determine the validity of this. Read the seller's description. This is a mind blowing volume and one of a kind. A piece of comic history. Well worth the opening bid and maybe even the "buy it now" price in my opinion. I don't know why the seller didn't consign it to HA. If I were a deep pocketed one percenter, I'd be all over it... I don't know why the seller didn't consign it to HA. If I were a deep pocketed one percent, I'd be all over it... Looks exactly like the other bound volumes Russ Cochran made from Dave Wigransky's comics. On another thread we've been discussing provenance. A Russ Cochran bound volume is one of my grails because I want to own comics from Dave Wigransky's collection -- and getting a Russ Cochran bound EC volume is the only way I presently know of to meet that goal because the provenance on Wigransky's other 6,000+ comics is presently lost b/c probably sold to a dealer around 1966. This bound volume is priced considerably higher than the WS and WF volumes that sold on Heritage, and its page quality appears worse. No Cochran bound volume has topped $4K. If prices are going up due to the Wigransky connection probably my fault. Since I'm after Wigransky comics, not PCH, I'm going to take a pass and wait for a less exalted title to come up someday. The Russ Cochran bound volumes of Dave Wigransky's comics I've seen all look something like this: So far I've seen the following come up for sale - all at Heritage: HOF 15(1)-14 VOH 12-25 TFT 18-29 and TFT 30-41 WF 13(1)-11 WS 12(1)-11 WSF-ISF (all issues) MAD 24-20 (not sure if these were Wigransky's) Panic 1-12 Edited to add: Oops! Also: Aces High (all issues) Extra (all issues) Piracy (all issues) Edited August 25 by sfcityduck Mmehdy, C. Popular Post sfcityduck
One final comment. The eBay seller states: "Conclusion: These comics come from what one might consider, at least unofficially, a pedigree collection." A better way to state that: These comics come from a "lost pedigree." We know the pedigree existed, we know it was pretty fantastic, and we know the collector who put it together was truly one of, if not the, first truly great comic collector. The fact that he was the sole source of Russ Cochran's purchase of a complete EC collection is a cool bit of comic collecting history showing Wigransky's legacy but not the only bit. FYI - here's part of the written docs which make up the provenance on these bound volumes - the ad that Sydney David Wigransky Jr. aka David Pace Wigransky aka Dave Jay took out in the RBCC and from which Russ Cochran bought his complete EC set said to have actually been in nm/m: C. sfcityduck
Russ Cochran verified the set was NM/M when he bought it (which is why it is great Gaines had all his file copies because Russ then proceeded to bind them). And everything we know about Dave Wigransky strongly suggests they would have been. Both the photo evidence of Dave and his collection from 1948: And what he had to say about how he stored his comics in a 1946 article in which he was dubbed as a "comic expert" despite being 13 years old then: The article's key quote from the article is: "Passing a chest of drawers on the landing, he said: 'I can't show you those. There I'm collecting a complete set of the Fawcett publications in good condition. I never let anyone else handle them, and I seldom handle them myself.z'" By "good" he means colloquially "really nice" condition. Just bought the painted clown cover issue. Stories were fairly well written, but I was generally disappointed with the interior artwork. Tough to follow the legendary work of Feldstein, Ingels, Davis, and Craig. A tale of 2 ECs… I got this one at my LCS last week. The owner sold it to me for the $5. Cover price. I kind of liked the 2nd story but the other 2 didn’t impress me much. The regular clown cover was quite good but I had to have the fun EC tribute cover. Then, I picked up this detached cover Piracy #3 for my low grade collection here on the boards from Catrick also for $5. Starts right off with a killer Crandall cover and story as well as well written stories with art by Evans, Krigstein and a finish by Ingals. Now THIS is an EC. Not one of the more popular Horror, Sci-Fi or Crime titles, just one of those unpopular post code ones. There is no comparison. $5. so much better spent… KirbyJack, Raze, sfcityduck and 2 others
