2mil versus 4mil

41 posts in this topic

Here's what I do for moat of my books.

Modern -- regular board and poly-bag

Random Bronze -- Mylite (1mil) and a Half Back

Primo Bronze -- Mylite2 and Half Back

Random Silver -- Mylite2 and Half Back

Primo Silver -- 4mil Mylar and Full Back

Gold -- 4 mil Mylar and a Half Back (they just fit the Mylar better)

Primo Gold -- huh, what's that? I'm not independently weathy.

Are 4mil Mylars really more necessary than 2mil Mylites? What really is the difference in terms of strength and durability? confused-smiley-013.gif

Actually there is a huge difference. A Mylite2 with a Half Back is nowhere as mighty as a Mylar with a Full Back. The Mylar laughs in the face of the weakling Mylite2. sumo.gif

4mil Mylar and Full Backs -- When it really counts... thumbsup2.gif

Dude. That is sick. hail.gif

Strong. What kinda condition you have those in? Beats the (@U^%)|( out of my collection. My best book is an ASM 50 which might be a 3.5, IF I'm lucky. Next in line would only be an ASM 238 9.0 foreheadslap.gif

I'm just slightly concerned by the sigs, but shoot. I don't have room to talk......

Yeah. I wouldn't want anyone named "Stanley" writing on my key funny books. tonofbricks.gif

I prefer the 2mil Mylite 2's as they have the "fold over flap" that is missing from the "open top" 4mil Mylars.

Obviously, the 4mil is thicker, but both will last 'forever'. The Mylite2's are slightly cheaper but, IMO, they protect just as well.

I like the M2's too, but I still feel uncomfortable with the flap. It's hard to fold because it will always go back to its original shape. Do you tape it ? (I've made the decision not to use tape any more. Too risquy) confused-smiley-013.gif

That's a photo I took for the insurance company.

AF15 - FN/VF (r - mp)

ASM 1 - VG+ (has 2 1" tears on back cover)

Avengers 1 - FN

DD 1 - VG (slight water damage)

FF 1 - GD (this is this one that Stan Lee wrote "Excelsior" on but didn't sign)

Hulk 1 - VF (r - mp)

TOS 39 - VG+

X-Men 1 VG/FN

X-Men 1 FN/VF (r - mp)

I also have another totally-beat-to-hell X-Men 1.

As far as the sigs go -- DAMN THAT STAN LEE AND HIS INFERNAL PIN!!! Seriously, these books are mine. I don't really plan on selling the so the sigs. are just for me.

For my GA books, I use Magazine 4mil mylars with Super Golden Age fullbacks from Gerber. Half-backs are too thin for expensive books, and Super Golden Age fullbacks do NOT fit in a Super Golden Age mylar. Had to move up to the Magazine mylars. Lots of extra room, but it beats the hell out of how most people store their collections, with the bottoms of their books pinched at the bottom and sides.
