I lived in Vegas from 2006-2011, and saw a huge growth in the Vegas comic scene.

Maximum Comics is probably the best all-around shop in Vegas, and grew from one to three locations in only about 6 years during one of the worst economic recessions in living memory. They're legit. Highest possible recommendation.

Alternate Reality, Comic Oasis, and Cosmic Comics are also pretty solid, perfectly good comic shops.

Avatar is nothing special, and Velvet Underground is a pit. I don't know anything about Cheeseboy and Stripside.

That accounts for about 10 shops for a metro area of 2 million people. Not a lot of room for expansion.

The most surprising aspect of the Las Vegas comic scene was how few Golden Age and Silver Age there are available. Because the resident population of the city was so small until the 70s there really aren't a lot of original owner collections around. However, because of the dry air, whatever was brought there later is still in decent condition.

Also, because it's Vegas, a lot of degenerates move there to "hit the jackpot," and then wind up trying to sell all their possessions to "win it all back." That's how you got the Amazing Spider-man 1 on Pawn Stars that they tried to get for $5000. Those big fancy casinos weren't built by all the money YOU won.

if you are in vegas..wouldnt the comic book scene the last scene that you would be looking for? (shrug)

I guess that depends how long you are there for, and how you are doing. I've had trips where I lost most of my money for the week in a day and looked for things to kill time with.

I just moved out to the Vegas area a couple of months ago and so far I am pleased with the comic book scene. I can back up the recommendation of Maximum Comics as a quality shop. Last week I was in there and they had Amazing Spider-man #121 CGC 9.4 Twin Cities Pedigree for sale for $975. Not a bad price at all the way that book has been trending these days. Several slabs, decent assortment of back issues.

Avatar has a lot of gaming, it's in a shopping center with a grocery store and a good used book store (Dead Poets). They used to be Dark Tower a while back. Good for new books, but no back issues to speak of. New books just get rotated into longboxes after going unsold for a few months. Intersection of Charleston and Rainbow, so it's pretty close to Red Rock casino.

I always thought one really high end store would work out there. People go there to spend money on things outside the gaming area. They have hundred dollar hamburgers and $600 tickets to the circus. Look at all those shops selling diamonds and watches. They don't like the winners flying home with that money either.

I love Vegas and try to go every year, though I have never visited a comic shop there. However the big news for me is that Wizard World is bringing their big con to Las Vegas next year for the first time. To be held in the LV Convention Center on April 24th - 26th. I'll be there!!

Agreed. The speech to text transcribing tech for blind people isn't perfect. Give him a break.
