Simmons Exit Legendary's KONG: SKULL ISLAND It looks like Legendary and director Jordan Vogt-Roberts are going to have to begin searching for a couple of terrific actors for lead roles in Kong: Skull Island fairly pronto, as they've lost both Michael Keaton and J.K. Simmons. According to Deadline, the "principal reason" behind their departure is scheduling conflicts, as the project recently pushed back its production start by a few weeks from the fall to before the end of the year. Presumably, he would serve as a replacement for either Keaton or Simmons, though the report didn’t specify which role he would take on. It’s worth noting that Crowe is awaiting the latest draft of the -script, and his involvement is by no means a foregone conclusion just yet. Meanwhile, THR‘s Borys Kit has revealed (via his Twitter account) that Brie Larson is in negotiations to join the Skull Island cast as the female lead. Larson can currently be seen in the Amy Schumer comedy Trainwreck, but she has a fair amount of experience in indie dramas (Short Term 12) and big-budget Hollywood spectacle (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) from the past year fives. Bosco685 Posted August 5, 2015 Author Share Posted August 5, 2015 ‘Kong: Skull Island’ Eyes ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Actor For Its Cast Variety is reporting that Corey Hawkins (who plays Dr. Dre in the upcoming NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton), is in talks to join Hiddleston as part of the Skull Island cast. Hawkins has been getting buzz for his performance as the legendary rapper, after having played smaller roles in such films as Iron Man 3 and Non-Stop; he will soon appear on The Walking Dead season six, too. As such, Legendary Pictures, which is producing both Straight Outta Compton and Skull Island, reportedly wants to keep Hawkins in the fold as his profile rises. Russell Crowe...eh...not so much. Btw, Target has these on sale for only $10. I picked one up the other day. Jackson and Tom Wilkinson may join Kong: Skull Island Deadline reports that, in addition to STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON's Corey Hawkins joining the cast, KONG: SKULL ISLAND is in early talks with Samuel L. Jackson for a role in the film. Jackson would take over the role that J.K. Simmons was set to play. The studio is also looking at John C. Reilly as a potential replacement for Michael Keaton's role. It does appear that Tom Wilkinson has officially signed on to a lead role in the film but it is unknown who he will be playing. This was funny in the comments section. His longtime screenwriting partner Derek Connolly also had a hand in creating the most successful movie of the year (so far). Now he's has been brought on board another Universal/Legendary monster movie - the Jordan Vogt-Roberts helmed Kong: Skull Island. According to THR, Connolly is set to do some last minute touch-ups to the film's -script - which has already been worked on by the likes of Max Bornestein (Godzilla), John Gatins (Flight) and Tony Gilroy (The Bourne Ultimatum). Given that the movie is only two months away from the start of filming in October, this development raises a few red flags. Will the arrival of Connolly steady the ship? The move will reunite him with Corey Hawkins, his Compton co-star (he played Dr. Dre) who is already cast in the monster movie. According to Deadline, Legendary is moving Kong: Skull Island from Universal to Warner Brothers "to unite the property with Legendary’s other giant franchise, Godzilla." They're reporting that a Godzilla versus King Kong movie will go into production after Gareth Edwards' Godzilla sequel is released in 2018. John Goodman Joins Kong: Skull Island John Goodman has joined the cast of Legendary Pictures’ Kong: Skull Island, Deadline reports. Goodman will play Randa, a government officially leading the expedition to the mysterious island home of King Kong. Goodman joins an already stellar cast, which also includes Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson (Room), Samuel L. Jackson and John C. Reilly. The film is expected to begin production this fall. No details were provided on the roles Whigham and Ortiz will play. Whigham, 46, is best known for playing Sheriff Elias "Eli" Thompson on HBO's Boardwalk Empire and Chief Dooley on Marvel's Agent Carter. While Ortiz, 47, co-starred in Rake and is probably best known for his feature film debut in Carlito's Way, playing Al Pacino's fast-talking cousin Guajiro.
