All I wish is I could go back and tell myself to keep all my comics in pristine condition-that would be plenty

I'm sure this will be unpopular, but for me the chance to go back in time is to re-live the enthusiasm and excitement that each months issues would bring. Of course (today) I'd like to cherry pick keys, but the fun of seeing what showed up on the spinner rack is what engaged me and what got me into collecting(and reading) in the first place. There have been few instances in the modern era where I looked forward to (or discovered) books in the same fashion.

I think we would all like to do that if we could. Reading the X-men 94 through 150 or so would be great. Heck, I loved Rom, the Defenders, the Avengers, Power Man and Iron Fist, Marvel Two-in -One, Daredevil, and the list hoes on. I think they were great because were less jaded and the world seemed bigger back then to me. Nice memories. :cloud9:

Be very, very glad you didn't buy any of these books from them.

The odds are better than great you would have ended up with a book that was badly overgraded, restored, or both.

So there's some consolation in that.

Comics were so valuable and rare to me as a kid-I also wish I could go back in time and give myself some comics

Ross's VFs would come back as PLOD 3.0s, if you were lucky.

This.

Having said that, I wonder if these guys actually had the inventory on hand (restored, overgraded or otherwise) to fill orders at the prices listed.

I remember stacks of Daredevil and Avengers #1's at my LCS back in the day, but not stacks of AF #15's. Maybe national dealers had a glut of stock back then before the collection boom really kicked in.

$1,400 and $460 for high grade AF15 and XMen1 respectively after inflation.

That's nuts

Still a ton of money then though (the average wage was 70 dollars per week) and I bet some people were saying at the time that they'll wait until the price drops lol

In 1987? That's way off - MINIMUM wage in 1987 was $3.35, or $134/week.

Reading this thread made me remember my Robert Bell catalog -- so I went looking for some info on him... only mention this because I found an interview from 1996 where he discusses inventory levels on many key issues etc and grades and what not. Might be of interest to some here....
