Dealer changing the price

After reading many of the posts in this milky way galaxy of a thread I think perhaps the saddest thing about this all is the poor "10$/hr." employee who probably got his behind chewed out for creating this"spoon" storm. Dreams of working in comic book collecting?...dreams of owning your own store kid?....POOF!Call me crazy but said employee might have gotten in less trouble for just selling the book in the first place, me thinks, rather then having the booth owner re-neg.#LEH

What is the minimum wage in Canada nowadays?

A loonie, a toonie, and a shinplaster an hour.

Grading should only be subjective now when it's something like VF or VF-, really it shouldn't be out any further than that now in my opinion.

I tend to notice when sellers say grading is subjective, they can't grade or purposely over grade.

The problem is that there are literally people who don't know how to grade and will grade a VG a VF.

You don't want to throw someone under the bus unless you are sure they are actually being misleading rather than just unknowledgeable.

First, if you don't know how to grade and it's part of your job, learn.

Second, if you don't know how to grade and it's part of your job, be conservative.

Third, if you don't know how to grade and it's part of your job, be willing to bargain.

I'll go one step further. If you don't know how to grade, maybe you should be in a different carrier path then comic books.

And these sad sack grader dealers, are they so bad at it (in the same direction) when they're buying?

Some do. Some grade VF's as VG's as well. It happens in both directions.

I know some buyers that grade VF's that grade NM.

Yup. Like Nick at Comicana. Those are kept top secret, though.

But the reality is that because there is no 'grading school' to teach people how to grade, some dealers, especially (in my opinion) those that don't get out to larger shows or mingle with other dealers very often often grow up teaching themselves to grade and they just do it 'their way' over the course of their entire careers.

No need to have one...we are a peaceful nation + plus if ever we're in danger I'm sure others will run to our defense so no need to waste billions.

I know some buyers that grade VF's that grade NM.

But these are never the people that are saying that grading is subjective.

Overstreet needs to out out a new edition of the grading guide.

Some dealers back in the 80s called anything that wasn't a rag NM...at least that's the way I remember it. I really taught myself how to grade with the first Overstreet Grading Guide back in the 90s, which was stricter than what most of the dealers I knew had been doing. I quickly realized I'd been overpaying for most books for years.
