So I received an interesting phone call last week...

Man were they surprised to see me back at their door after I sold those two books with cash in hand (1/2 the proceeds from those two books) to give them. It really helped them out and they were totally floored. lol That really made a good collection find story into a GREAT one.

It's nice that you were in a position to do that.

What people don't get around here is that some of us are not in that kind of position at all.

Congrats, Brock!

Peace,

Chip

In a position to do what? Give some money back to an old couple that unknowingly sold something worth a lot more than they expected out of necessity. Yeah, having integrity and honor is definitely a position held by some and not by others. (thumbs u

So it's like the old joke - guy calls a plumber, plumber looks things over, takes out his wrench and turns a pipe, and everything is great. Plumber says, "That will be $50" (I told you, this is an old joke) Man is outraged, says, "$50 to turn a pipe??? I want a detailed receipt." Plumber takes a piece of paper and writes, "Turning pipe: 50 cents. Knowing which pipe to turn, $45.50."

lol

I've been away for a while, but I just wanted to answer Transplant's question (it was a WTT for Atari games thread, BTW, not WTB). Thanks for asking. I did find about 15 games for $1 each so now I have some to play again. I also take my family out to eat once in a while and sometimes April and I get out for "date night." None of which means I don't need a big windfall to help us get to where we want to be in life.

If I make $50k on a book I buy for $1k I'll give $15-20k back to the seller. Are you all happy now?

Peace,

Chip

Chip....Chip. At some point you have to learn the art of not sharing so much about yourself and problems on here.

And some are closer than others

Being in the Red or Black in life can easily sway perspective.

You are right. But when you are in bad shape and still do what's right, that is what defines you. It's not what you do when you can afford to, it's what you do when you can't afford to do it and still do.

How to define what is "right" and what is "wrong" can be somewhat subjective as this thread shows.

I recall being in Greg Whites shack in Kissimmee Florida. Only been there once with no plans to go back. He bought two full paper grocery sacks of comics from an older lady for $300. After she left, I asked if I could see what he bought....Every single SA DC key was in there from Showcase 4 up. I was amazed at what a jackalope he was. She didn't ask for $300, its what he offered her. There's right and there is wrong.

I asked how much for a few books and he pulled out the Overstreet and quoted over full retail. ps he still lives with his momma. Or did back then. This was well over 5 years ago. Kingofrulers was with me if I recall correctly.

I was in Florida at this time too. We tried to meet up, but it didn't work out. :sorry:

kudos to OP, as he just hit the lotto!

Not the same thing. Not even close.

"Lotto" doesn't necessarily mean "millions". You can win much less in any lotto.

:gossip: I wasn't referring to the dollars at all.

Everyone has an equal chance in the lotto. No one loses tens of thousands of $$ because 1 party didn't know what they had, while the other party was more knowledgeable and took advantage of them.

Let's not go off the deep end just yet.

What about the amount of work you put into becoming a reputable comic dealer, so that people will call you to sell when they have something for sale? The amount of time you took become and expert on comics so that you can identify if/when/where there is profit to be made? What about the opportunity cost of other things you could be doing? In nearly every single financial transaction doesn't one party have more knowledge about the value of the product?

Our whole economy is essentially based on arbitrage, isn't it?

And the other $4....?

I never noticed that piece of Kav OA on your sig line before. After careful inspection I think he's into BBWs.

Forgive my ignorance...but what's BBWs?

And it's sorta new...took me some time to get it up.

Thanks for noticing though,I really am fond of it.
