Picked this up at NYCC for $25. Any opinions on what the grade is?

With the detached staple, 4.5 sounds right (usually you have to detect two points for the defect, going by CGC standards).

That was my understanding too until I saw that x men 1, 6.0 in the FS section with a popped bottom staple.

Yeah, 4.5 looks about right to me. Congrats, that's a tough one to come by at that grade & price.

Yes, that X-Men is a pretty nice copy, and it does not esplicitly state that the staple is detached: looking at the closeup picture, it rather seems, despite the heavy wear and paper removed around the staple, it might still be holding on one of the cover sides: if attached, and enough safely, the downgrading does not happen.
