This.... will not end well.

Nobody cares any more.

You'd be surprised.

Many who care have bailed on collecting high grade slabbed comics altogether. The loss of their money from the marketplace impacts everyone who buys and sells these comics.

Personally I think(correct me if I'm wrong) that mass pressing has devalued the high grade market. It used to be something of a wow factor to find an uber high grade book in the wild, now not so much.

It is interesting to see the same issues arising that were going on when I joined these board and was very active here over 10 years ago.

Speaking as one of those "who bailed," ... Yeah, the wow factor is gone. When I see a high grade slab, I assume it has been pressed and did not maintain that same high grade condition since it was published. Kinda like looking at a dinosaur skeleton in the museum and learning a significant portion of it is a reproduction.

That said, it is the way the hobby has evolved and there is no fighting the almighty buck. No hard feelings, I just choose not to participate in that game. I am happy with my mid grade Marvel keys and VG golden age Actions.

I have had 2 or 3 books pressed years ago to remove water damage and to fix a bad amateur press job from a book I bought in the marketplace here -- beware of amateurs with waffle irons! When the day comes to sell these, I will disclose they were pressed.

:hi:

Need a presser and a cleaner maybe.

I hear of Joey is the best and Someone Tony of Indiana. ..

need advice if I should give in and press and clean to sell a few...or go to css to do it.

You don't have to do it. Nothing is forcing you to press those books.

I sell comics as a significant part of my living but it'll be a cold day in hell before I get a book pressed.

Thank God there are still a few collectors who feel this way. :applause:

Collectors being the key word. It doesn't make economic sense for dealers to do this, however.

Why would a person sell a VF for $25 when a $15 press can turn the book into a 9.4 that sells for $125?Multiply that by a couple of hundred books a year and you can send your kids to private college.

A quote ten years gone.

"I often wonder what effect all this manipulation behavior may have on the value of existing, high-grade specimens. I mean... Will collectors see their current investment equity reduced as a result of newly manufactured books coming to market? It would seem to have a correlation...as the number of high-grade books increase, the value of existing books decrease. And the investment is worth less."

I would go with joey he turned my walking dead 127 from a 7.5 to a 9.8

Are you being serious? That's the best uptick I've seen.

7 grades higher? Wow

What could make a Walking Dead 127 a 7.5 that pressing could completely reverse? (shrug)

Must've been something very unique. Sat on it? Slammed in a car door? Rolled it up to beat the dog?

Hard to imagine what it could be on a book that modern.

The sad reality of today's market is that if a dealer isn't getting top dollar out of his books, someone else will and the first dealer is simply leaving that money on the table.

One can pizz in the wind or one can get take their family to Disney with the money they made off their competitors decision to stand on his principals.

Its a shame it's come to this, but it was inevitable. Simply too much money to be made.

I could stand to make a lot of money on my books through pressing. I still believe as much today as I did when I first learnt about pressing that restoring a comic that doesn't need restoring is a bad thing.

Plenty of people have bought into CGC's mantra about restoration only being something that adds to or takes away from a comic because that makes it easy to justify the process however, I've never seen why I should accept the definition that CGC came up with so that they could excuse and encourage pressing. After the amount of times I've shared my opinions on it here over the years, it would then make me a complete hypocrite to go and get my books pressed for a quick buck. A hypocrite is not what I wish to be.

I Agree but lets be honest I have people Knock my 9.2 and 9.4 when 10 years ago that was NM!!!!! Now Read the WTB its 9.8 or nothing on some copper/bronze age...its awful because I dont't think there is a difference between a 9.4 to a 9.8. I laugh when it says PGM Some modern era book and people argue a 9.4 or a 9.8...The market is popular and hot, but now in the last two years a 3rd grading company, a grading company THAT SPONSORS PRESSING, and 5 Online auction sites, Look at the Ads for pedigree comics...that don't disclose Pressing.

I am not a Hypocrite, but I sent in four books on 10/27 that have not been pressed...an xmen2,94, Hulk 181, Hulk 182. I now I could have gotten these pressed but I didn't. Lets see in a week. I not asking the Morality of it I'm talking the Financial side of it.

There are some athletes who think and take the little blue pill to help/enhance athletic performance (not in bed) since it chemically relaxes muscles and opens arteries to help blood flow more easily. At least that's what I have read. Not sure if it has been actually proven to improve athletic performance.

My post is not intended to be either pro or anti press biased.
