Been looking for a nice copy at the right price for 25 years. Probably coulda gotten something comparable a long time ago, but it was always out of my price range. In this case, it really wasn't any different, but the seller was kind enough to split the payment into some time payments. It definitely FELT a lot less painful. We were just chatting about this and the #91 in the war comics thread about how they BOTH have Mlle. Marie stories that aren't noted in OPG (although they're noted as such in the Grand Comics Database).

Nice book!

Admit it, war book purist, you secretly liked the dinosaur issues all along.

Someone please explain to me the appeal of a big wet Stan Lee sig over Dr Banner's face on Hulk 1, or Spidey's body on ASM 1. I just don't get it.

Yeah I don't get it either, but collectors will collect just about anything. (shrug)

I certainly did. In fact, the dino books were what introduced me to DC war in the 90's. They remain my favorite war books of all time, and it was a very interesting, and rather daring, experiment by DC at the time. Like most of what was happening at the time, it developed quite organically, with the absence of the dinos in #91 and #93, with the full time return in #94 due to response from readers. It's a wonderful series, and, other than the grey tones in Combat, my favorite war run of all time. It encompasses pre-FF #1 DC, tough books in any grade above 5.0, and continues throughout the Silver Age, all the way to 1967 ('68 by cover date), even boasting a Neal Adams issue! It is a quintessential SA series.

Sorry, didn't mean to go on so long. ;)

I like the dino issues, but they're not my favs. What you say about tough books in any grade above a 5.0 is true. The ten-cent dino issues comprise some of the biggest holes in my entire Big-5 runs--and not for lack of searching over the past 25 years. It's possible that a few came up and were out of my price range, but I don't recall that happening more than a couple times for books besides the #90. The 10-centers are all genuinely hard to find in grade. . .but that shouldn't be any great revelation.

You have a undercopy of that one now?

Nope. Never had a copy of it 'til now. That's my only copy. That's the way I've played it most of the time. I've made exceptions for certain things--GIC 77-80. Found slight upgrades for a time in the early 90s until I nailed a nice looking VF for each of them. There are 6.5 to 7.5ish copies floating around out there somewhere that used to be my under copies. However this was at a time when a nice VF 8.0ish copy could be had for less than $150.00 All of my keepers are in the 7.5 to 8.0 range. Wish my keepers were higher, but I couldn't afford anything that WAS higher (in the last 15 or so years--they've increased in value by quite a bit) or I missed out on a sale from __________________ (fill in the blank).

But like I said, the "slight upgrade" route isn't how I played it for most of my books. If it wasn't in the 7.5 or better range, I'd usually pass until I found a better one. It's been a slow and laborious strategy, but one that seems to work for my budget.
