PGM Superman 14

This one is new for me, so I'd like to hear your thoughts. My Superman 14 has a completely split spine and the cover is detached. What would this grade as it is now, and what would it grade if I had the spine conserved (spine split sealed and cover re-attached)?

As is 1.0, but with fantastic eye appeal and the perfect candidate for restoration ( not sure where the line between that and conservation is when it comes to repairing fully split spines, and depending on how they match up, the spine may need a little more than just glue.)

 

I see this as an apparent mid-grade copy without doing additional work beyond spine repair.

I've seen CGC give books a 2.0 with a split spine/detached like this, and while there is some chipping and big spine ticks, there are not a lot of defects that break color on the meat of the cover. I think a good shot at 2.0.

 

As for restoration, no expert as I haven't restored a book, but I would think that this could get significantly higher if you wanted to go beyond just a reseal.

I just received my Tec 35 back and it got a 1.0. However the back cover was still attached to the book. I thought it would have gotten higher than that.

 

I wouldn't get it repaired. It looks awesome without it.

1.0 seems to be what CGC gives completely split spine books. Looks 5.0 otherwise. A sealed spine and reattached spine could get it up to a 2.5/3.0 plod

4.5-5.0 if you only "conserve" it with a spine seal.

 

7.5-8.5 if you have it restored (including slight color touch).

 

Personally, I would have this one conserved but not fully restored.
