Comic Books stores in Los Angeles?

Geoffreys Comics is the by far the best place in LA.

Now owner of HiDeHo Comics as well in Santa Monica.

The rest are garbage.

Are you saying the Hennessey brothers sold Hi-De-Ho? That would be news. A few years ago they moved from Santa Monica Blvd. to Lincoln Blvd. a few blocks east and south.

Just stopped by Blastoff comics the other day.

My wife and I were right by there and I sorta dragged her in.

We both commented how the store was the cleanest and least cluttered store we had ever been into.

It appeared that the woman at the store was the owner and was very knowledgeable and nice.

Best selection of Golden Age Batman I have ever seen in a local store.

Detective Comics or just Batman?

They frequently have new vintage books every now and then. Owner's name is Jud. Nice guy to talk to. He told me he once sold multiple GA keys maybe last year with the highlight being a Pep 22 unrestored mid grade.

This is good to know for sure. I will be sure to check with them.

Agreed. Frank and Sons is frustrating nowadays. Luckily I'm around 20 minutes away from them so it doesn't take too much out of my day to stop by on a Wednesday and see what new inventory some of the dealers have brought in.

I think the key is to become well-acquainted with a vendor there who will let you know when new collections come in. At the least, when they have unpriced collections, they'll let you gander beforehand. That should be common knowledge to all of you though. I was able to get my TTA35 that way.

I also got my DD1 for cheap a month ago from Frank and Sons so maybe it isn't that bad...

Personally, I think the best shop in Southern California is Earth 2 Comics hands down. Carr is an amazing dude who prices nice books to sell. Everything is in Mylar and he buys collections frequently. It's like Blastoff comics except cheaper. He's one of the only guys I know that'll take 30% off his wall books during sales like Black Friday. I was able to get a decent Green Lantern #76 this year for under $100 because of that.

Im pretty sure the owner of Blastoff was a part owner of Earth 2 before opening up his own store.

Bump.

I'm going to be in LA next week to get my oldest settled in to college.  First off is this list fairly current?  Secondly what else comic related stuff should I be doing in LA?  I'll even take recommendations for non-comic related stuff I need to do.

Thanks in advance.

This list is a bit dated. But, if you must check out comics, Earth 2 is a good bet, and still open. Meltdown is gone. Golden Apple is still there, and decent.

But all of that should take second place to visiting the Getty Museum. It's free (parking is $15 for all day), and has one of the best collections of fine art and other stuff on the planet.

I might even show up and stalk you for a while.

I kid, I kid. Honest.

Getty is a great idea.  I’ll pencil that in.  You’re welcome to stalk me, but if you talk to me you can only use emoticons and pictures for the first hour.

Warner Bros Studio tour is great if you are a DC fan.  there is also Universal which is a better tour  and has Marvel ties.  If you like Baseball, take in a dodger game.  A day atone of the beaches is always nice

Studio tour is an excellent idea.  Especially since my daughter is going to LMU for film production.

I can do that. Have your secretary call my secretary, and we can arrange schedules.
