I found this wooden box in a Disney Comic Collection. What is it?

In the old days at gas stations, oil was carried in glass jars after being pumped out of a larger barrel. They used screw on metal spouts.

I have seen the carriers and spouts for them at old car shows, that are usually made out of metal wire, like a basket with a handle.

I think there is a good chance this might be one of those. Nice piece with good "crossover" attraction.

Google "petroliana" might help too.

It might have been a carrier for oil bottles. I believe it is a Chevron Oil piece. They had the Disney license in 1939 I believe. My grandfather worked there then. I have a few things from the Advertising campaign from him.

And, if you want to part with it...PM me

That's it exactly.

Looks like RPM had a licence to use Disney's characters. Google search of RPM motor oil and Disney gets a number of images related to both RPM and Disney

Google searches also find RPM motor oil signs for auction with the same graphics

RPM was Standard Oil / Chevron Oil's oil brand. It looks like it is dated at bottom. Either 1939 or 1940 I would bet...
