Character collectors unite - the thread!

18 posts in this topic

I know most OA collectors focus their collections around an era, an artist or a small group or artists. Some collect primarily for investment purposes or nostalgia. This thread is for those collectors (like myself) that collect based on character. I thought it would be a good place to compile a list of the largest art collectors based on their favorite character. So, if you (or know of another's collection) that is primarily focused on a single character, post here and I will build out a list. So, let's hear from the biggest fans by character! Spidey? Cap? Shellhead? be sure to include the CAF link.

I appreciate the call for unity. I am also a character collector. I like the big names drawing my character but mostly like anything featuring him. (In fact I feel odd buying original art that doesn't feature him).

Excellent! This is the type of collection I was thinking about for this thread - I will update. I took a quick peak and will go through the art more thoroughly in a bit. I do have a piece in my collection with the good doctor and hope to add more if/when I can add one of those elusive Defenders pages to my collection.

Thanks

Cap?

Was me for a long time, maybe still? Not been actively pursuing though for many years. At last count ca. 500 published covers, splashes, interiors. There's no way to write that without sounding like bragging; I'm not. A lot is pretty bad post-Zeck/Neary ugly. Which is why I moved on.

I admire both your collections (Hulk and Dr. Strange). It's an especially fun way to approach the hobby. I've occasionally thought of collecting representative pages from various artists who pencilled Daredevil, but two things stop me. One, I really really imprinted on Colan's version, and the rest never feel right to me. But probably more importantly, the other Daredevil artist's I'd like to collect are really pricey: Everett, Kirby, Wood, BWS, Mazzucchelli, Miller, JRSr, etc.

I have been collecting comic art for almost 30 and reading comics for much longer. I started out as a big reader of X-Men and particularly a fan of Jean Grey growing up. So I gravitated towards collecting art featuring Jean. Over time I have collected a lot of the published X-Men art featuring Jean and have expanded my scope to include other art especially by particular artists like Big John Buscema and Barreto. Though I still am an active Jean Grey collector. Below is a link to most of my Jean related art.

Many people think I also collect Phoenix art but I mostly stay away from that area. Ya its splitting hairs but I grew up reading the original X-Men so gravitated to Marvel Girl.

Those would be some tough gets indeed. I also hope to find good representative pieces from all the well known artists to draw Hulk.

While my entire collection isnt based solely around one character or era... I have been collecting Mark Bagley Ultimate Spider-Man artwork since issue 1 and have amassed quite a large collection! (And I'm actively looking for more if it features Spidey in costume...)
