Dealer Passes for Conventions...?

27 posts in this topic

No logic other than that they paid their own hard earned money for the privilege, and the dealer(s) who worked so hard for the privilege are happy to take the money for the pass.

Also, there's very little restriction on who buys a dealer badge. You pay the money, you get the badge, no matter how hard you worked or how honorable you are.

Again with this? Most people's money is hard-earned. Sing a new song already.

What I do not like is when a dealer has several extra passes and doesn't sell or give it away to people who want to get in a show. Or even give it to another dealer so he/she can make use for it. Instead, it goes straight to a trash.

Many shows have a restriction that vendor passes are not to be sold by the vendor, only used by him and his booth help. You could even be barred from future shows from setting up again for selling a vendor pass.

Are we on the same side of the point? I think so?

Paid your money (to the show or to a dealer with extras)? Get a dealer pass.

I'm saying that as long as you conform to the rules of the show, I've got no problem with what happens next, whether its buying comics early, getting line or on lists for sigs, sketches, or exclusives, etc. I don't think anyone has 'earned' it more, and have a tough time understanding why anyone would make a distinction.

They also use the dealer passes to get in multiple people free access regardless if they get in early or not because when a dealer gets a booth they are allotted so many passes.

Ive seen first hand one pass being used for multiple people thoughout a day.

Bottom line is dealers get those deals because they earn that right to do so by:

#1 - paying for booth space

and more importantly...

#2 - working their azz off!

So no need to paint them up as some kind of sneaky thief.

They earn that privilege, trust me.

I don't think the OP meant the dealers, who do work very hard for what they get. He means those who buy dealer passes to get the same benefits without the work.

Don't those people ALSO work hard for their money? that they use to buy these passes (giving money to dealers) AND buy those comics that money goes to those same HARD WORKING DEALERS). Don't they also have to spend time researching what they want and costs?

there is no room for logic and forward thinking here Revat.

are THOSE people Dealers? How did you not understand what his point was? Dealers get dealer passes to get in early to set up and do what else they will with there extra time. Im not a fan of non dealers or people not working booths getting them.

there is no logic in the thought that since dealers get them and get to collections first means you have that same privilege.

I understood his point just fine.

I simply take issue with the notion that fans/attendees aren’t entitled to a deal simply because they aren't dealers. If that's the case perhaps they should stay home and let the dealers buy and sell to each for 3 or 4 days.
