Value/price of a Pence Variant Key

56 posts in this topic

I had some pence copies on comiclink last year, they did not do very well ;-(

Anyone know what these percentages are?

Avengers 2 CGC 7.0 $375 $548 69%

Avengers 4 CGC 6.5 $407 $1645 25%

Daredevil 2 CGC FN- $81 $203 40%

Daredevil 3 CGC 7.0 $186 $247 75%

Tales of Suspense 18 CGC 4.5 $62 no current info but you did about 143% above last sale

X-Men 1 CGC 6.0 $2655 $5525 48%

X-Men 2 CGC 6.0 $305 $430 71%

X-Men 4 CGC 5.0 $406 $500 81%

I bolded the percents above. Except for your two main keys, I would say you did ok. Your Avengers 4 is just sad. If I would have known I would have given you at least 50% for it.

There is a smaller pool of collectors for Pence copies so if a couple of them miss your auctions you can have low results. Perhaps the auction houses need to do a better job of advertising that Pence copies are present in the auction.

Avengers 2 CGC 7.0 $375

Avengers 4 CGC 6.5 $407 really gutted about this one

Daredevil 2 CGC FN- $81

Daredevil 3 CGC 7.0 $186

Tales of Suspense 18 CGC 4.5 $62

X-Men 1 CGC 6.0 $2655 ;-( and this one

X-Men 2 CGC 6.0 $305

X-Men 4 CGC 5.0 $406

Don't feel too bent about it, those few Heritage results notwithstanding, the realized averages of the prices received on your books are close to the historical averages for pence books:

Using gadzukes methodology, as applied to 2015 GPA averages for an apples to apples analysis (I believe gadzukes erroneously used 2016 data in the post above):

Avengers 2: 46%

Avengers 4: 30%

Daredevil 2: 28%

Daredevil 3: 68%

Tales of Suspense 18: (no data)

X men 1: 48%

X men 2: 67%

X men 4: 74%

Average percent of all 7 books: 51.58%

(of cents copies value).

Sorry herc, believe I won the Avengers 4. Couldn't believe how cheap I got it. My max bid was 2 1/2 times the hammer price.

No worries Jay, hopefully it's got a good home ;-)

I just thought at the time, I could have sold it on ebay for double, but hey, live and learn, but I was shocked at the price it fetched as well, but good on you!

I would've paid more too but knew nothing of the auction, or the more recent one

One UK boardie scored an AF 15 pence in CGC 8.0 for about $6000 if I recall?

I just checked the census and the highest AF15 pence I see is the 7.0 (that I own). Do you think there is one higher?

Didn't realise it was yours. What a bargain!

Amazing book! (worship)

Didn't realize it was signed too

Was there a story behind its purchase?

No big story, I definitely got lucky though.

I bought it as a restored comic with "color touch" (for a very low price). I sent it to M Nelson for an opinion on CT removal, and all he could find was that small line that's coming out of the topleft of the 12c price circle.

Sent it in to CGC and got a 7.0 blue. When I checked the census I found that it was the highest graded copy which put a big smile on my face.

I love the Stan Sig on the 1st page. Apparently there was a comic convention in London in 1974. He must have signed it then.
