How about one Happy XXX thread per poster per day?

Whoa dude! I don't know what you guys are looking at in the CGC World Headquarters but let's keep the porn out of Comics General!

Ok, maybe I rushed to judgement. Bring on the porn.

About time.

Too prurient, IMO. 2c

A bit more prurience would be beneficial to many of those here that take this place way more seriously than anyone ever should.

the birthday threads have never bothered me-- I don't read them very often unless it is some boardie who I have had some interaction with. Otherwise-- they just act like a wafer to cleanse the pallet. IF for some reason they got moved to some sub forum, I would imagine they would get next to no traffic whatsoever.

as for people making the threads for attention seeking purposes-- Not sure what to make of that. Suppose it is possible but also is it any worse than some other topic that holds no interest to someone? But one thread for all the birthdays/anniversaries seems reasonable if the sunshine friendly welcome to the board posters can stomach it. It certainly doesn't make any sense to me to move it (pass the buck) to the water cooler. If you intend to move them there, might as well make a new sub forum under CG or you will find WC regulars getting as mad as those who only frequent the CG. I go to both forums so however it pans out-- so be it.

Happy Friday!

If you like posting happy birthday or anniversary to a bunch of people, ok. But what about posting one thread like:

Happy Bday! - X, Y, Z!

It's like selling comics on the marketplace... you don't put one per thread, you group them a bit.

Thoughts?

I agree with this.

A couple people have been posting large amounts of these (happy event) types of threads just to cause trouble/seek attention. They're getting out of control.

Agreed with your comment. Seems like this would just reward their bad behavior.

I wouldn't have a problem with the new crop of Anniversary threads if it was done with some care like the birthday ones are. But given that half of them have been to folks who haven't posted anything in 10 years or are obvious shill accounts, it's clear that they have just been posted to provoke.

CORRECTION - Looks like none of them have posted in the last 6 years, and 5 out of 7 are one-post-and-done. Not hard to see what's being done here.

Would that go for any thread where the main topic was a member? There are a few of those.

There are threads frequently in CG that are off topic and thus should be moved to the Water Cooler, so yes.

Sure there are some but let's not confuse these Happy (Event) congratulatory threads with actual discussion threads where there IS a topic for discussion....not just a bunch of "attaboy" posts.

Good post. Attaboy!

I'm starting to think your Zlibs have become overly compressed. hm

Seems like a solution in need of a problem to me. On average there are only 2 birthdays posted a day, and even with carryover/bumping from earlier days, I've not seen more than 4, maybe 5 at a time over the last week (I only mention birthdays because the anniversary threads are obviously an attempt to be disruptive, and it appears to be working).

It's better than any of the other suggestions, I guess, if you really have to make a change. If you want to make things more business-like by treating members like they are on a par with selling books, sure.

Birthdays are personal.

All members deserve their own separate birthday thread, should someone start one, or not.

Now, please divulge the prerequisites for a coveted "custom title".

Grown men crying about the need for a birthday thread ... please grow a sack.

Wouldn't it work the other way as well - grown men complaining about birthday threads they could easily pass up and read what they like, and then bumping old threads and starting new ones just to protest birthday threads?
