Good-bye Slave-Leia

And you all thought the industry's efforts to appeal to more female customers would be a good thing.

See what you did now!?

:tonofbricks:

ETA: btw, this just jacked up the price of existing Slave-Leia merchandise, for those who have any.

Men get objectified, women get objectified. Let's rewrite history and pretend that humanity has not been a male dominated society since the beginning of time. Lame PR move.

the stupidest part about it, is that she was a prisoner of essentially an intergalactic criminal gang/mob-boss. They forced her into it, and she WAS their slave. Their is nothing sexist about portraying what actually happens (sex-slaves controlled by criminal gangs is reality) in the context of a movie.

It would be sexist if that's how she dressed of her own volition while all the men are wearing regular clothes. As soon as she is freed, she goes back to dressing normal.

Now, nerds objectifying her slavery as a desirable thing for their sexual fantasies would constitute sexism (possibly). That doesnt mean that any rendition of the iconic outfit or scene spontaneously becomes a sexist act.

On top of that, people themselves like being "sexy", and there are many girls who enjoy wearing that costume and the attention it brings because of its revealing nature. No one would accuse a girl dressing up as slave leia as being sexist. Honestly, our society is so pathetic its ridiculous.

People are so afraid to act, speak, or even think, for fear of the SJW/PC thought police disapproving.

they'll make them again in the future, dont doubt it, in one or two-generations our culture will have righted itself from the ditch it has fallen into. Liberty/PersonalFreedom/FreedomOfSpeech etc can only be restrained for so long

And it’s not even that simple… These things suck 360° degrees…

Aside from this, for a moment you had me worried, I read "Good-bye Steve Leialoha".

.... Lame PR move.

eh. it sounds like a standard Disney position of the last 20 years on objectification of women, just filtering down to Marvel. Doesn't seem like a PR move at all, with JSC backpedaling: "For the record, I didn't say this with any authority, I simply mentioned it seemed to be the case"

It is a little of trying to put the cat back in the bag here. We have enough depictions to last for generations, not like they are in short supply. Plus, it is one of the most frequently cosplayed character costume (for good, and scrub out your eyes bad). Slave Leia is forever.
