What are top hot comic books in 1978 & 1979?

22 posts in this topic

Hello everyone!

Hope everyone had a good holiday.

I owe my two brother in laws for giving nice Xmas gifts to my two kids.

My both brother in laws born in 1978 and 1979. I know Amazing Spider-man #194 may be the top hot 1979 comic book and Marvel Comics Super Special #5 with a poster (Kiss band) may be one for 1978 but it is a magazine.

What are the top hot comic books for 1978 and 1979 included the magazines?

Look forward to seeing what your inputs.

A quick browse of Google and...

DC went through their 'implosion' in 1978, but still managed to release the long delayed Superman vs. Muhammad Ali.

"Mindgames", Uncanny X-Men #111, by Chris Claremont and John Byrne wins the Eagle Award for best story. Korvac Saga in Avengers, Gulacy on MOKF... Marvel's in transition, but some decent stuff still there.

Mystique, in Ms. Marvel #16 and Ben Urich, Daredevil #153 make their first appearance.

1979

Demon in the Bottle storyline in Iron Man, Aliens graphic novel by Walt Simonsen and Archie Goodwin, 1st Miller on DD... I'm sleepy.

Uncanny X-Men 120

Issue 121 was hotter in the UK because 120 was distributed as a pence copy, whereas 121 wasn't.

Though I'm inclined to agree that either Rom #1 or DD #158 is the best pick, here are a few other suggestions:

Ms. Marvel #20 -- 1st black & sash costume.

Conan #100 -- death of Belit.

Interesting to go back in time to see what was being released in a given month by Marvel and DC. Does anyone know of a resource that indicates *when* specific titles came out, though, as opposed to what was stated on their cover?

In other words, "May"-dated covers hit newsstands probably in February or March, no? It would be fun to know what issues you truly were likely to find on sale when you walked into a shop in June 1975 or what have you...

Select the 'On Sale In' option.
