Smith gave it life, but Buscema coaxed it to perfection. GOD BLESS.... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) I like this story from CBR.com " I opened up with, "We're now into early 1970. Conan the Barbarian #1 debuted in July of 1970. Originally, Roy Thomas asked John Buscema if he wanted to draw the new series. Buscema was ALL about it. But then Martin Goodman, Marvel's Publisher, said that they were going to deduct their licensing fee for Conan out of the production cost for the book. So Buscema would cost too much, so they used another artist we saw a little while back, Barry Smith, instead. So I think Thomas was thinking the introduction of Arkon was almost as this 'Sorry you couldn't draw Conan, so, well, here, draw Conan anyways!'" ............ Arkon was published in Avengers 75, 5/1970 and Conan 1 was published 10/1970. Edited February 4, 2021 by comic_memories jimjum12

the blob
So 101 through 240 are basically a wasteland in terms of issues of note, aside from a few red sonja appearances (ok, everything from 59-99 is pretty dubious too, but I am hoping Belit winds up being good on screen and folks may get interested in her so maybe her cover appearances will matter, but she is in every issue until she is dead), although good reading regardless (I will be honest, i have not read most of them, I feel like the art dropped off a bit and I liked the stuff from 100 and before? I was going through my 2 longies of conan and family books to see what might get relevant in the coming months, obviously the BWS stuff, adams, early buscema, 1st belit, red sonja appearances. 1st zula is not doing anything on ebay right now, I don't know if they plan on using him. So in terms of Conan Gal Pals during the original marvel runs, Belit is primarily in the comics, Valeria is in the magazines (other than maybe a cameo flashback), Red Sonja is in both, has lots of her own comics, periodically possesses Mary Jane Watson and hangs out with spiderman (or is Red Sonja supposed to be a prior life on MJ... I need to read the comics now), and maybe gets visited on a mystical journey by Dr. Strange? I guess it is moot because Marvel does not own Red Sonja...for now. On an unrelated note, why on earth would a seller list 3 9.8 copies of the same low demand conan comic for auction at about the same time? It's like they were trying to sell it for as little as possible. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Conan-The-Barbarian-99-CGC-9-8-016/254816830025?hash=item3b54444249:g:N-AAAOSwvk1f3mmS https://www.ebay.com/itm/Conan-The-Barbarian-99-CGC-9-8-020/254815541743?hash=item3b543099ef:g:QtEAAOSwwlNf3mlR https://www.ebay.com/itm/Conan-The-Barbarian-99-CGC-9-8-005/254815541746?hash=item3b543099f2:g:nigAAOSwNmVf3mkn and then he listed another one a week later... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Conan-The-Barbarian-98-CGC-9-8/224305909929?hash=item3439ac90a9:g:n7EAAOSweuFf9MBx comic_memories

I posted about my purchase way back in this thread with some added pics. https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/109091-conan-comics/page/40/#comments Thanks. As I said, I never heard this even though I got all of his GBP output in the '70s - or thought I did. It was not listed in the GBP catalog. What is the official name of it? I did an ebay search but nothing came up.

Popular Post Joshua33
I don't know about key, but if you're into killer artwork and an amazing story, check out SSOC 30. 7 part minisaga "The Scarlet Citadel" by Brunner and Thomas. Great Howard adaptation. Easily one of the best Conan stories/artwork combos. A great read. Joshua33
Im almost done with my 9.4 run, but having difficulty with a couple issues in high grade. Between issues 1 through 24, does anybody have experience with which issue is the toughest in the BWS run?

For eons I have wanted a decent conan page from one of the marvel books. Invariably anything I can find that won't bankrupt me doesn't have him in it or if it does, you can barely make him out. Joshua33
We should add 59 to the list. Belit is an important character and her origin story should be considered key. Great cover, too. comic_memories, Morganmi and musicmeta

That has been the challenge. If I was willing to do lesser page quality in 9.4, I probably could've bought them all within a couple months. The White page requirement has got me on about a 2 year kick, so far...
