Can you guess why you probably shouldn't buy this "Jack Kirby" piece?

Many of the others sketches he already sold seems to be forgeries IMHO, but I would be glad to hear what you think of them...

It's me, or many of them seems to have been done... with the same pen ?

Wow, I hadn't noticed that - good eye!

Well, Glen, if I had such a good eye, I wouldn't have doubts on some... :flamed:

The "Mignola"'s, "JR JR"'s, ... no problem, but I don't know what to think about the "Cooke"'s. Not enough familiar with the late Darwyn to see the evidence jumping to my face...

A funny side note is the "Larson". As if the typo was an convenient excuse for this item, beeing the worst of the lot (and as if the guy was telling himself that no effort would be lost this way, pairing it with a deformed - O.o - Spider-Man just to be sure of his shot anyway).

Here’s a piece if your name is Tom, just $14, what a deal... 😂

https://www.ebay.com/itm/224583343112?hash=item344a35dc08:g:A7MAAOSwHJphI7Cs

this is for...you have to be "Hi, Tom"

I really had a good laugh at some of these. The Metron one, he looks scared. The Surfer face and torso center really are laughable. liveaucitoneers has many for sale right now and many many sold, all now "in the style of"

Someone should DM him and ask if the inscription can be changed to another name.

I bet he'll be able to procure another one with the right name on it.

I would have ignored this seller, as anyone scanning his other stuff (shipping is only $10 worldwide from Poland!) would see all the other fakes by the usual suspects, but in addition to his other fake Kirbys, here's smiley-face Galactus, copied not from (I think) Kirby but Byrne (maybe?). He's kind of adorable. Look at his sheepish lil' smile! Aw, he's not so bad, he's just misunderstood.

Good eyes. That is definitely a ripe from Byrne's entry in OHOTMU :

Let's say the guy told himself : "Maybe if he smiles, it will sell quicker"

This looks promising...

Can't wait to see the Nova version of the guy :

(Just kidding...)

Ran across one of the Hellboy's via a Dealer, who had previously sold a decent # of Mignola pieces but claimed they weren't able to pickup on it being a very likely fake. It was definitely marked up appropriately

These slipped my attention but I note this was pulled *after* the auction was over. A suggestion: if you see a piece of Kirby art that's inked by Theakston, make sure it has pencils. Greg lightboxed. A lot. Not sure if that's what happened here, but it would be a reasonable guess.

The person who forged this seems to have heard that there's....something going on with the back of a lot of Jack's art, and has tried to imitate it without actually knowing what it is (ssssh, no, let's not tell him).

Also the terms of this auction were, I think, written with flags dipped in red ink.

That’s the first time I’ve ever heard of Kirby learning to draw by “tracing cartoon characters”.

A bit telling.

I think that's a misunderstanding of how in 1935 or so, he did Popeye in betweens.

This scam's a little different:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/194854764937?hash=item2d5e3fc189%3Ag%3AhFoAAOSwlAdfwrt-&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&campid=5338181027&customid=&toolid=10049

It's a real piece of Kirby art, just a fake auction with information hijacked from a fake account. They change up their profile and email every so often.

They have 2 different profiles going with same books currently, including a wide variety of low-grade copies of major books (eg All Star 8 cgc 1.0 PLOD, a lower-grade Contact 12, etc.) Not just Golden Age but keys across all eras. Most went up yesterday. One account is something about LED lights, the other “classiccovers” or somesuch, with lots of (fake?) feedback for heavy equipment sales. Figured it out when I noticed both sellers offering the AS8 with the same “email us to buy direct for fast sale” picture. Both ads say all bids will be cancelled, buy it now only. But the only way to buy is email them.  Clear eBay violation; hopefully they are flushed soon.

Gone now, but the MO is familiar. I'm pretty sure these are hacked accounts that have same library of valuable items posted with a description to message the seller directly. Seems like these fake auctions are showing up more often too.

I don't know what to think about this one... Fake or rushed to the extrem limit ?

I would vote for the second option, but...

Your opinions ?

And the frame doesn't help...
