Fantastic comics 3

I don't think 5 is in the same league at all image wise 2c

:taptaptap:lol

That's my opinion and I think you'll find more than a few people share it

Fine gave a great deal of attention to all of the finesque details and grace notes with #3, didn't he? As though he felt he'd achieved something unusually special with the composition, and wanted to give it the full Fine treatment. His showpiece.

The image must have leaped out no matter what else as on the stands that month.

I was just wondering, do we have data on print runs for these titles, given their comparative rarity today?

At least with number 3 you can be certain Samson isn't naked.

I'll never be able to look at that cover in the same way ever again.

you don't mean that now you'll look at while drooling, do you?

Real super quick..

Based on a line average for Fox Dec 1939 (release date, not cover date) ...

The most basic estimate would be 300,000 for Fantastic 3. (again, please note, that is super broad).

Summer '39 and on is the leading edge of the boom time. A few started to see it coming that spring, then Supes #1 launch blew things up. Fall and Winter '39 through early 1940, anecdotally, DC and Timely have some near-1 million launch numbers.

But market got crowded fast.

By comparison:

Dec '39 Dell line average = 167k (example title -- Popular Comics)

Dec '39 Feature Comics alone = 321k (GO CLOCK!)

Dec '39 Tip Top alone = 350k (Tarzan)

Dec '39 Action Comics alone = 650k (Estimate! There's been a lot of thought put into figuring the Action numbers out over the years, but this is a pretty broad estimate based on known data)

So... about what you'd expect, I think. Lower edge of middle of the pack.

Thanks very much Mark.

Fantastic #5 is the Mae West of comic covers.
