Ah, The Slasher. I'd forgotten about him.  To a Brit his name is as sophomoric as The Whizzer.

Stop taking the    Ken.

Until he started to copy Miller's style.

Bingo!

There were a couple of hideous Iron Mans by Tuska early in the series.  The cover's not bad, but open these up at your peril.

Iron Man #41

Tuska (shudder)

Captain America 182

The continuing adventures of Steve Rogers in his new persona of the Nomad.

Drawn by Frank Robbins ( shudder )

Poses so ridiculous and awful that yes I did claw my eyes out.

I discovered the first issue of the Rocket Raccoon miniseries from the 80s in one of my boxes a couple years back and tried to read it, but was only able to make it about three pages in.

That is a horrendous book.

Yup. Just as appallingly bad a story as Hulk 271 was from Bill Mantlo, and I didn't like Mike Mignola's art at the time, which markedly improved in the late 80s.

Just awful. As bad as those Humberto Ramos Wolverine panels that get posted from time to time.

Yup. I have that one. Only a couple of years later but so much better than the Rocket Raccoon art.

Oh god, Trencher! My eyes! My eyes!

What was Giffen thinking? He was one of those artists I do not get. Great on Legion, than all of a sudden changed his art style drastically. I really can't think of a comic artist who changed his art style that drastically?

A good one. I will say though  Bill Sienkiewicz new style seemed better than Keith Giffen's new style.

Absolutely, although I didn't appreciate it at the time. When he was drawing early issues of new Mutants, I couldn't look at them.

Shortly before this, on Legion, Giffen was doing a fairly decent copy of Kevin Maguire’s art style, but Trencher is scribbly, garish nonsense to me.
