The Crippen collection first came to light when Metropolis bought some books from a contractor. It wasn't until years later, when the heirs bought some books to Heritage that they discovered the lowlife had plundered some of their fathers books. I think one of the books stolen was an Action 1.

In NY, the contractor would  be liable for criminal acts by his employees and subcontractors.

It was discovered years later, well after the Statute of Limitation had run out on the theft.
