Because the slabs are packed nice and tightly, they wouldn't move a whole lot inside the box.  The books, however, will move inside the slab from the force of any sudden drop, and that's probably the cause of the damage.

It's so very unlikely that CGC is unhappy with the OP and intentionally damaged his books.  The thought of this is laughable.
