Hello Todd! :headbang:

Tell me again why you think this is a variant? A stamp doesn't make it a variant? What am I missing? hm

Like for example like Spider-Man 252  $0.60 that's Canadian comic book variant news stand Edition.

There are no Canadian price variants for this date I'm afraid. Only a 7p pence variant exists of this book. Every cents copy is the same. All are 25c, all are newsstand as direct editions hadn't started yet. Sorry. The only difference here is the stamp on the cover. CGC would likely ignore that.  Not worth submitting in this grade.

Morbius is good though isn't he :)

A book with a faded cover generally isn't a great slabbing candidate. This book, in particular, would sell for less than half the cost you would incur.

If I signed my name on the cover, it wouldn't make the book a variant. Nor does a store stamp.

I really don't understand why many newbies or n00bies have fantasized on those worthless comic books being rarities or variants.  Oh boy, we get more weird posts everyday.  Stamps on the comic books mean nothing except Pedigrees (it must be in pristine condition and continuation in issue numbers in any title in Marvel, DC and all other publications).  Please do your homework and research before asking us.

If newbie questions bother you, perhaps you might spend less time in the newbie forum.

I agree and disagree. On the one hand they're newbies.  On the other hand, they're savvy enough to create an account on some random website and attempt to enlist the help of internet strangers.  In this case, he knows about CGC AND about the existence of 'variants', and has possibly heard about something at least tangentially known as a "Canadian Variant" or something similar.  But for some reason doesn't ask "Hey is this a Canadian Variant?" or "Hey this stamp looks weird, what's it about", but instead makes a wrong assumption that he was probably capable of catching with the slightest bit of research, which would have been less effort than starting this thread and waiting for answers.

On the one hand, its nice to be nice, and that can go along way in ways we don't anticipate (like with Steve Buscemi in Billy Madison).  On the other hand, maybe some of these 'newbies' can be trained to think out (or research) their questions (and the way they ask them) a bit more in the future, which is probably also good for everyone and more specifically the newbie.

Reminds me of the first time I sat down at the poker table at the casino. Of course I lost the first hand I played. As he was stacking his chips, the winner of the hand says, "Do you even know how to play this game, kid?" Another guy replies "Take it easy on him. We all had to learn."

but one of those guys was probably trying to save you money, and the other was probably trying to take it.  Who was actually being nicer to you?

Its like they say...

Yes I agreed with you guys about taking it easy on the new guy and letting them learn.  I don't check on newbie questions very often and I happened to be one of nicest guys on this board. That question and others were strange that got my attention. Just wondered why we got illogical questions often rather than getting logical questions. Just snarled it.

Imagine yourself as the CGC representative and get the strangest question. I am sure it may be annoyed and the reps will say no flatly after the lengthy discussions with few reps and supervisors. Silly questions can eat you up like beating up a man with a fish. I really don't want to get that myself but I beat up on myself.

That book is obviously not the variant or rarity.  It's easy to answer. I have UK pence stamps on my books too and didn't question about it.  When I was a newbie, I learned so much from you guys before I started questioning you in a cautious way before your sarcasms exploded me but I have been exploded many time. I am so used with you guys.  Nothing is new but when you are boring then start to create new sarcasm here. I enjoy your sarcasms and wits (real good stuffs) everyday. Here is my entertainment. :foryou:

Not too long ago, I criticized a newbie for not taking his question directly to CGC. It was one of those procedural questions that should be answered by CGC. He said he did call CGC and they told him to come here and ask us. (shrug)  While humorous, it does show that CGC probably gets bombarded with annoying questions and doesn't want to be bothered anymore. I like to help newbies but I get very annoyed with the ridiculous questions, especially the 'how do I submit my comics' question. We really need a boiler plate for that question. This newbie's question did not annoy me because he was obviously confused. In this case, 'doing your homework' was coming to us. Still, I understand what you are saying. Next time, you can leave the 'bombing' to me ! HaHa !

You are the best. No question about that!  Even I still learn your new stuffs and strategies.  CGC should have hired you!

I try to help when I can, but sometimes it's difficult to know who is genuine and who is just having a laugh. One red flag I see is the 'spelling mistakes / missing words' scenario. So here we have "Can they tell my book variant" instead of "Can CGC tell if my book is a variant?"

The missing words occur so frequently in newbie thread titles that you think one one of three things:

1. It's the same person(s) winding us up (characterised by the oddly phrased question and the OP never posts again)

2. It's someone for whom English is not their main language (and they may well have made an excellent fist of their question!)

3. It's a five year old

To avoid offending anyone it would help if we knew everyone's age, location, and had a clue if they were foreign speaking.

@Todd jones - Todd, if you're still with us, and if you're prepared to do so, would you tell us how old you are and whether English is your first language? Absolutely no offence meant to you in any way, but you can hopefully see where we're coming from? :foryou:
