Why can't sellers get the comic packing thing right?

The new issues used to go from the printer to the distributors in bundles, wrapped in string.

My question is, what did you do about your purchase? Did you contact the seller?

I haven't said anything yet.  These were all low grade books so it's no big deal.  But I will definitely let them know not to wrap in string

Great. Now I can't get Julie Andrews to stop singing in my head. ¬¬

Sing along everyone.......

Comics in boxes with no packing peanuts,

No bubble wrapping, no stuffing, no kleenex.

Brown paper packages, tied tightly with string,

These are a few of my favorite things.

Rust covered staples and clipped "Value Stamps"

My GA collection downstairs in the damp.

Postal deliveries left out in the rain,

These are deliveries I cannot explain.

El Marko'd Stan sigs that look like a bug

The start of a spine split that somebody tugged

New improved slabs with Newtonian rings,

These are a few of my favorite things

Dog-eared pages,

Detached covers,

A Spine roll that's really bad

It's then I remember my favorite things

And then I feel like.... I've been had.

I have had a shipment where the comic was "over-packed" where the sender used so much tape that it damaged the book.

They placed the book in a bag and then on a piece of cardboard. Then used packing tape across the entire bag to "secure" the bagged book to the cardboard.

The only way I could get the book out was to carefully cut the bag at the edge of the taped down bag close to the book. All the tape across the bag held the book tightly to the cardboard and actually caused some spine ticks.

doh!

There IS such a thing as "too much tape."

Tape isn't magic, folks...the real protection is the cardboard and the box.

5 rolls of tape doesn't protect the book(s) any better, and can cause damage.

Use enough to secure the item...add an inch or two...then stop.

P.S.: If you MUST use 576 yards of tape, do this: put the already bagged and boarded comic(s) in ANOTHER, BIGGER bag (Golden Age or Magazine, whatever fits) and THEN go to town on that OUTER bag, so that the books inside aren't affected by the (overuse of) tape. And for God's sake, make sure the books inside cannot move a millimeter, or they will bust through the outer bag on the first impact the package takes.

I have a canned "copy and paste" Packing Directions ready to paste into the comment section of eBay or any site that I purchase my "preciouses" from.

You must do this if you don't.  At minimum it gives the shipper some idea of what they should be accounting for when sending your merchandise.

I never expect anyone to know the things that a comic book goes through in transit.  Therefore I plant as many seeds as possible when requesting how to send me the books.

Then sometimes that still goes out the window... :sorry:

Time and time again I have received comics damaged in transit. Even from some reputed sellers. I bought 4 slabs from Pedigree. Schmell however squeezed them into a box that could hold max three slabs. Obviously slabs arrived with damage. And guess what, Pedigree comics when informed requested that I pay for return shipping. Bunch of a holes...
