Attempts to highjack my ebay account

16 posts in this topic

I've recently changed my registered email on ebay to a yahoo email account.

Since that, I've received several fake "second chance offers" related to items I didn't bid on.

Even more concerning, my registered email on ebay has been changed to somebody else's email account !

To those who use yahoo email accounts for ebay : did you ever experience this ?

This has been going on for some time now. Emails seem to be more targeted towards sellers though. Typically they will come from "adminstrator@" or"supportteam@". These are not real Ebay emails, they are from hackers trying to steal your info. If you have repiled to anything like this you've given all your information away.

That's why I'm just not using Ebay until maybe next summer or so.

Everybody be careful and be wise!

I learned not to respond to them. I did one Friday holiday weekend, and by Tuesday morning someone from a forign country I believe Sweden, emptied my bank acount of almost $3000 I could watch it happen, but could not stop it, because the bank was closed. The bank did refund my money after investigation, but some advise, never give out sensitive info like pin numbers.

Actually I was not referring to those emails every ebayer receives. Of course I've never replied to such emails.

What I mean is that when I checked my personal data in my ebay profile, my email address had been replaced by somebody else's email address.

So I'm not using any yahoo email account anymore for ebay.

Unless you changed the email yourself, I'd say your account has been hijacked or compromised.

I think Ebay has just become to big a target for hackers to stay away from. Just by clicking on someone "basic" profile you can get their email address, bidding history, and look at what you've either sold or won. Once they know your name, email, and that you're worth something you start getting the scam emails. Even if you dont respond to those it doesnt mean that they arent trying to hack you.

That's why I said I'm staying off of Ebay for 6 months or a year. Lets see if they can fix some of their security breaches!

At one point I was getting between 8 to 10 bogus emails every day telling me my Paypal account had been hijacked.

Eventually the phishers gave up.

Sadly, they don't give up on porn and cheap drugs! foreheadslap.gif

To eBay's credit, they have somewhat addressed this by placing all communication messages within the new My Messages section of your eBay. They are even trying to conceal e-mail messages through the 'contact seller' option.

A little too little a little too late I'm afraid. No one should have to EVER respond with any information via e-mail--period.
