Comprehensive List of Batman/DC Bullet Logo UPC Variants 7 7

Hello, just wondering what you guys know about this logo. I found these in a 20 pack (one each as I opened two packs) that is fairly common, but have not seen this ‘Superman 75 Platinum Logo’ on any other book.

If this is the only book this was ever on it seems like an odd choice.  Both of these copies are currently sitting at CCS.  Thanks!

With this one there are only two versions at a glance.  The only way there might be a difference is in the indica it may have something like collector's pack. That said I doubt it.

Yes, that looks like a direct edition. A lot of the 20 packs prior to 1994 had pictures or symbols in the UPC box but it was just the direct edition. 

Did that one come out of the Jan 93 20 pack that had Superman 75 4th print on the front? If so, I should have a copy from the pack I opened and can check indicia for you later.

ETA: Checked indicia; there is nothing.  It's a normal direct edition.

Turns out that Superman #75 style logo was used for a handful of direct editions in early 1993.  The ones I could quickly confirm were Showcase '93 #1-2, Team Titans #5, New Titans #94-95, and Deathstroke the Terminator #20. There may be some others, but so far as I can tell nothing past March, and all direct editions.

Thanks for checking, and for the additional info. I’ll have to track down some of the others. As a Death of Superman collector I think that logo is pretty cool.

Batsignal Logo Adjacent?

The fun but weird thing about these 90s multipack reprints with the batsignal logo upc is that there are other comics where this logo was used for the direct edition and as such aren't really batsignal logo UPC variants, e.g. from 1990s multipacks, which makes it confusing. So YMMV on this issue, but I am considering this one sort of a Bat Signal logo despite it not being in a traditional multipack. This is the 1995 reprint of Batman #279 that was released exclusively through a variety of Monogram model kits in 1995. There was a jeep and a helicopter and some other kits with it included and it doesn't seem too hard to find one on eBay.  It's a mini comic, about 8 x 5 inches. Indicia shows it is a reprint.

Looking at the list, it seems like maybe it should specify there are two versions of Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (two different covers, one is the standard cover and one is the deluxe version- both have a version with the bat signal logo on the back), two different versions of the Batman Forever Movie Adaptation (again, standard and deluxe/ prestige both came in various polybags with bat signal logo UPCs but the front covers are different), and perhaps add the DC Bullet logo multipack version of Batman: The Collected Adventures, Vol. 1.

 

Batman Forever Standard Bat Signal came in a fuschia poly bag labeled standard edition (the prestige/ collector's edition came in at least three different sets- 2 different polybags in green or fuschia with pogs or a CD and the Collector's Set with Riddler and Two Face: Crime and Punishment).

One version of Mask of Phantasm came in the January '94 brick as previously discussed in this thread. You may notice one has an ISBN near UPC and one does not.The other was typically available in the multipacks that were packaged with various Batman Adventures toys and usually included the early Bruce Timm Harley Quinn Batman Coloring Book, and is also the source for the Batman: Collected Adventures TPB Bullet Logo and the second printing bat signal logos of Batman Adventures 14 and 16.

The trick isn't finding any of these so much as it is finding them in great condition. They are pretty easy to find on eBay so long as you are willing to slog through a lot of direct sales and newsstand edition listing.

Happy to have run across this one! Although not in amazing condition,  the front looks much nicer than the back and it was one I didn't have yet.

That's a beautiful book, congrats!

For me, the Zero Hour logos are just like the Bat Signal and other non-DCU upc variants, in that they were released in the September 1994 and October 1994 20 pack bricks (packaged with DCUs and a Bat Signal, in the case of September's brick) and in various two packs and collector sets as well.

I managed to find an extremely nice Batman #279 at a flea market this summer, then also picked up a couple Monogram models (Lamborghini Diablo and 57 Chevy Hardtop) that have the mini-comic. One of the boxes was unsealed, so both copies are shown in the pic! The model shows that these bonus comics were available around 1995 per the copyright on the box. And here's a print ad mentioning the Batman mini-comic too.

wow.... I wonder how many people might now be searching for those model kits.   Tempted to do it myself...    Never mind.  I see a bazillion of them on ebay.  However, you discovered a great way to find a high grade version of this mini comic book.   Thank you.

Yes, given that there are quite a few different model kits currently available for sale, it's surprising that the Batman #279s showing up on ebay are predominantly low to mid-grade.  I'd have expected more high grade copies to be widely available because there are so many model kits around.
