1" spine split at top. Cover is attached, but a little loose at the single staple, which has tearing where attached. Additional small tear on spine.  Pages are OW.

With the caveat that I’m viewing on my phone: are the colors as bright and vibrant as they seem to be, or is that the scans?

The colors are vibrant, though the greens and blues are a little darker than the image. I can't seem to get greens in scans to look like they do on my comics, they are always lighter. This copy definitely has better color than most I've seen, with a red/orange background as opposed to yellow/orange usually seen.

3.5 for the following reasons:

crease top of back cover
spine stress lines
staple recessed with tears near staple.

Great book still with one of the most recognizable Golden Age covers ever!.

( Full disclaimer, its the wall paper for my phone and picked up a 9.2 from the man himself: Ricksneatstuff)

Cool. I would guess it's a 4.0/4.5 tweener by CGC's standards. Strong eye appeal, many positives despite the flaws and writing.

I'm with Point Five, easily a 4.0 and could possibly hit a 4.5.  Plenty of 4.0 VG books have a piece missing or long color breaking creases which are acceptable and characteristic for this grade.  This book has none of the major flaws associated with the VG grade, just an accumulation of minor flaws. I also remember an FF 48 CGC 4.5 sold here a few months ago with a MASSIVE name written across the entire back cover.

Thanks everybody. My thought was 4.0. Back in the day I might have knocked more off for the writing on the cover, but that's one example of an area where CGC has influenced my grading, at least on low-mid grade books, particularly where the overall aesthetics aren't that negatively impacted.
