Yes, but it might not be a smart play to get into a bidding war unless "winning" truly trumps financial considerations. On a book-by-book basis, it's still possible to lose a lot of money.

This is true, but 2008 & 2010 is ancient history; even 20/20 is hindsight now.

I know that’s the cause for it. We’ve been seeing inflated prices with this Pedigree for awhile now.

Well, I have noticed a lot of air pumps operating in the background. hm

There are 13 copies 7.5 and higher.  That's a very small number relative to the size of the Marvel Zombie Collecting Community.

And that cover doesn't even feature a zombie!   To snag one of those you'd have to track down MM #46!

You can't beat those robo-reminders for punctuality, ...they're working overtime!

At least they're not as obnoxious as CC, who send you invoices for books piecemeal while the auction's still going on!  Heritage at least wait for the entire auction to be concluded to send you one consolidated invoice.

Because it's a Promise book

If you're patient and wait for them to come back on the market, the premium may evaporate a bit.

The Promise 9.6 Kid Colt #4 just sold in this auction for $4080.  It sold on Heritage back in September for $4800.  That's a bad flip, particularly after you factor in fees.

Even more surprising is that these two low grade pre-hero issues each went for over 20X Guide ($4560 and $4800, respectively).  Seems like the pre-hero issues have suddenly caught fire.

Well, I guess not so much when they come graded and slabbed and consigned to the premium rink side seats of a high end HA Signature Auction as opposed to being raw and low grade and booted to the nosebleed cheapo seats of a HA Weekend Auction where they still stand out:  :whatthe:   (thumbsu

Golden Age (1938-1955):Superhero, More Fun Comics #35 (DC, 1938) CGC VG- 3.5 Slightly brittle pages....

Sold for something like only just a bit over double condition guide for a higher condition graded copy or less than 20% of what a raw lower condition copy sold for less than 2 weeks ago at something like 20X condition guide.  (:

As for the More Fun 45, I guess I can't show the scan here since it was graded by the boys from across the street.  Pretty much the same thing with an absolutely gorgeous Slight to Moderate Restored copy selling for slightly lower than condition guide at only $1,500 or only about 30% of what a much lower graded water stained G+ copy sold for less than 2 weeks ago at something again like 20X condition guide:  (:  (:

Looks like the so-called death knell for restored PLOD books is probably a bit over rated when you see results like this one here:  :applause:

I imagine the Slight resto rating helped a bit here, although the work was listed as a Poor "C" job,  and yet it still managed to sell for almost double condition guide value.  (thumbsu

Sold for $11,400 or something like 4X condition guide valuation, with only 5 copies graded higher than this nicely presenting copy relative to its assigned CGC 5.5 grade.  (thumbsu

I was also surprised the 3.5 MF #35 didn't go for more in light of the earlier sale of the low grade raw copy.  It's probably due to the 3.5 having brittle pages and a taped spine.  I think the best pre-hero DC buy in the auction was the Cosmic Aeroplane copy of MF #47, which went for only $3,120.  Now that was a deal for the buyer.

Especially when compared to the rather abysmal showing of both the 'Tec 29 and 'Tec 33 a day earlier.  :(

Must be the raspy screechy "run out of the room" voice of the live auctioneer, as compared to the hynoptic soothing bid enducing lull of the computer generated voice.  :takeit:   lol

Still can't believe that Tec 27 didn't at least hit 100k.

Agree. That was way too cheap. I have a 47 or else I would have absolutely bid more than it went for....and I am cheap.

The deep pocketed bidders on the first 2 days don't want to be seen bidding on an "incomplete" book, while the weekend flea market bargain hunters don't mind bidding on these so-called "entry level" copies.  hm  (shrug)

I'm much closer to the weekend flea market bargain hunter, and I wouldn't want an incomplete or coverless copy of anything at any price point. It just wouldn't hold any appeal for me. I think that most collectors probably feel the same way. I would never say never with respect to a PLOD, but a PLOD would have to be super cheap. But a coverless copy? Basically never. The only possible exception would be if I already had a cover to match, and it would have to be a cover that I found in a bulk lot from an estate auction or something, because I wouldn't buy a cover, either.

Only one item I was watch went for what I would consider a bargain

Batman 2, 2.0 Promise book, $7200

Worlds Finest 3, 4.0 Promise book, $13,200

Batman 3, 6.5, $9,300

Batman 78, 7.5, $2,760

Batman 89, 8.0, $10,200 - thank the Lord I already have an 8.0 I bought from Metro for around $800

Tales of Terror Annual 3, 8.0, $1,860 - the one bargain in my mind
