I think so far, these sales are more rational and is an indicator that these are what prices should've been like in the first place without all the pumpers, flippers, etc.  Getting back to reality practially!

I think there's clearly two separate markets here as the Promise Collection books should be viewed as an separate entity on its own and not mixed in with the GA market.  hm

Similar in vein to how there are two separate markets for PLOD books as compared to their Universal counterparts in terms of their rate of return as they certainly seem to be carrying some kind of stigma in some sort of weird inverse realtionship to their overblown hype in their first run.  (shrug)  :tonofbricks:

Not only the Promise Pedigrees. Seeing drops on so.e other books as well.  Guess the "fat lady was too lazy to get off her duff":facepalm:

Rather surprisingly as I had posted in the Famous Funnies thread, definitely NOT the case with the Frazetta Famous Funnies books as I believe this is the first time that one of them have hit the $30K price point (i.e. the CGC 9.0 graded copy of FF 212) and also the first time that a copy of the much more common FF 209 have even come close to hitting 5-figures, let alone cross the $20K threshold level:  :whatthe:  :applause:

Sure their was a few surprises but the vast majority went for less than previous sales.  It's definitely a buyers market which is a good thing :banana:

The Promise books took a bath.  Some relatively rare books, on the other hand, did quite well.  For example, the 9.0 More Fun 10 and 6.0 Zip 22 each went for $20K, and the mid-grade Big Book of Comics went for $15K.

Dynamic 9 did well too. That's a brutally tough issue.

Still plenty of crazy that I see.  I think maybe people just moved on from the Promise books to other shiny objects.

108K?? There are 4 copies in 9.6 and lots of other high grade file copies. :preach:

Marvel Mystery books seem to be doing pretty good

Yeah they all went for a nice chunk, except the 9.2 #12 for 14,400. Not once did I hear the auctioneer say the words Jack or Kirby during bidding. Those two words combined early in the bidding probably would have created a few more bids. It is a Kirby cover possibly inked by Joe or possibly Jack himself. Pretty early Kirby and I think his 1st really great cover. I thought it would go a little higher. 8.0 Larson went for 16,500 last September.

The 8.0 #12 sold for 10,200 today.

Golden Age (1938-1955):Superhero, Action Comics #79 The Promise Collection Pedigree (DC, 1944) CGC NM+ 9.6 White pages....

As a high grade Action Comics collector I was following today's auction very closely.  The four Promise Collection Action Comics were the ones that appeared in the first Promise auction on June 2021.  That auction was where we saw some real crazy prices.  Subsequent Heritage auctions saw excessive prices but not as insane as the first.  With that said, despite the seller taking a huge bath, the prices. realized for the four Actions sold today were still high compared to the expected market values just prior to the first Promise auction.

Not sure why there always seems to be such delight or thread frenzy when the Promise books crash or sell at a loss.  Good chance the seller could have been a boardie or a collector we've met.  I feel bad for those sellers as they bought into great material and are now seeing losses.  I didn't consign any Promise books into this current auction, fwiw.  That said, it's a great Pedigree and I like those books and own several.  I share the pain when they dip like this.

Promise Actions taking a beating.

79: $32,400 to $9000 :eek::eek:

80: $52,800 to $20,400 :eek::eek::eek:

The previous prices paid just become more and more unfathomable.

I'm sure that will make the seller feel much better.
