I figured he was close but that since he was all pencils no inks he wouldn’t be 1st. Do you know where I can see the numbers on that?

Not offhand, no.

No problem. I'm curious now, I was pretty sure SB when you add up all the MTU/MTIO/ASM/Web/SSM/Random issues penciled or inked Spider-man the most of any artist and was hoping someone had done the numbers specifically. Bagley is the only person who can even be in the conversation (Mooney is up there though as should be Sauvik).

You would think with as wide spread as the Spidey-fans are, that someone would have run the numbers.

Yes, and don’t forget to include the tidbits of work Sal did on Spidey Super Stories, too.

i don’t think Saviuk is remotely close, unless you are including his work on the Spidey newspaper strip

#1 Eric Stanton

#2 Steve Ditko

This ones clever but not a chance at # 1.

if Eric did contribute and refused to take credit it would be a move beyond ego, nearly an impossible energy for an artist to separate from.

Ditko said no contribution.

I do think the energy in the room must have been electric. In that way only (no small thing) these men likely were  mutually inspired by creativity and competition.

Major props to Vodou for listing ES. The guy makes me think ha ha!!!

In the Sixties, out of that studio...

Any pretty girl = Stanton.

Any loser dude = Ditko.

That's true whether it's an adult Stanton signed drawing.

Or an all-ages Ditko credited comic.

Those beautiful women influences track with what we know. Inspiration certainly.ES # 1 with tangible Spider-Man credit? Nah That goes to far.

:news:  A stretch to call this related but ARTSOC now informs that the model for loser dudes was none other than Mr. Exceptionally Adequate himself.....Sal Buscema. lol

Inspiration certainly.

Never. Ditko stunk at women, they are shrill dogs; he did excel at self-portraits (Peter/Spidey).

Any pretty woman in ASM or anywhere (any other Ditko credit same period including Dr. Strange, etc) is Stanton.

Not inspiration, actual Stanton.

I read aloud the “women are shrill dogs” comment and Mrs. Grapeape and Sister in law overhear.

Sigh.

Thanks for the education Vodou. With friends like you.....

I keep waiting for some artist adept at mimicking Ditko to give us a look at what Mary Jane would have looked like had he ever drawn her actual face.

Or if Sal Buscema had drawn the first appearance of MJ’s face really small, as Peter looks stunned and Gwen cries like Tammy Faye Baker. ARTSOC legions point out how the exceptionally adequate Sal missed the opportunity to get a close up of Peter’s future wife.
