The following picture is from a book and an interview in Collectors Weekly (see following link)

The caption from the "Collector's Weekly" interview reads: "Clayton Moraga, in 1967, in his Polaris Nuclear Sub, a glorified cardboard box, that could be destroyed by anything remotely wet, even dewy grass. Images via “Mail-Order Mysteries”

Very cool!! Incredible to see these in real life after seeing them in pictures for decades.

looks hard ......it's tough enough just assembling a short box   lol

And it looks like the type of materials and the way they lock together by folding end tabs, that disassemble as you're adding additional folds and parts! I would assemble it with a roll of white Gorilla/duct tape nearby to reinforce from inside where the parts connect.. Definitely would last longer.

The ad shows a tailpipe.

From the eBay listing:

"The "aluminum exhaust tube" touted in the ad is believed to have been a small rectangle of everyday aluminum foil, and is not supplied in this lot."

Probably worth the $1200, and maybe far more, from the standpoint of pure rarity.

Negative.  Joe_collector called it years ago when he predicted that the cardboard rocket ship market would crash.

"Another note: this item (this actual example) was purchased many years ago for over three-thousand dollars at auction."

I hear you, brother!

Our family lived in a box just like that when I was growing up.

Wait.......is that a house behind it?
