Is anyone else mad at Clink?

Remember when CGC denoted major defects on the label?

Josh is the same dealer that sold me a very expensive book sight unseen with a rusty staples note, this was my fault for not asking about any notes at the time,I suppose but shady on the other hand to not disclose.

When pressed on receipt and wanting to return it said" It won't progress any further in the case"

That was my last deal with them many years ago

I once bought a book from one of their auctions that was a 9.2 that came with a rusted staple. Didn't know a 9.2 could have a rusted staple, so either it can or it progressed further in the case. Not something that would have been apparent from a scan from any angle, so not their fault really, but not a book I wanted to keep. Ended up selling it at a loss.

It's very time consuming to scan back covers, the time it takes scanning the back cover could be time spent scanning another book.

I can understand wanting to see if there is a wrap on the back cover, if so, how bad is it?  But if you are bidding on a 9.6 silver age book, and you're wanting to see the back cover because you're afraid of the coupon on the back cover missing, then the 9.6 grade will tell you there's nothing majorly wrong with the back cover. I even get people asking for back cover scans for 9.8 modern age books, like I'm trying to hide something..

It takes no more time than scanning the front cover.  Would you try to sell a coin without showing the reverse?

This was a 9.0 denoted RUSTY STAPLES, purchased via phone at the time as a blue label .

Ok, so I did buy the grader notes.  They say:  light, multiple crease full bottom of back cover
light, multiple crease left top of back cover
moderate miscut full right of whole book
multiple bindary chip out spine
printer's vein center of front cover
small, multiple tear full top of back cover

These are the kinds of defects that could range from high to low in terms of eye appeal, so no help there

Based on the notes, I would pass.

with the economy tanking now, perhaps they are also feeling the pain, and may have let some people go? this could explain inability to send more scans?

I strongly doubt this would have happened so fast, unless they decided to do a pre-emptive strike in anticipation of a slowdown to come.  hm

If anything, it might arise from the fact that they are deemed to be a non-essential business, and as such, employees in their state might not be allowed to go into their offices for work at this current point in time.  (shrug)

I sent a request for a back cover scan on March 14th, and when I got no response, I sent another request March 20th.  This is for a book that will hammer for north of 5 figures.

So I just now called, and got told that, sorry, due to the quarantine, no back cover scans.  When I pointed out the quarantine didn't start until 2 weeks after my first request, I got told, well we were told to just stop giving out back cover scans.

Wait, what?

If you're going to do this, at least give me the courtesy of a response to me email requests.

Someone else can have this book now.  I'm done with Clink.

Honestly, I'm surprised this hasn't been surfaced before.

The following is an elaboration on my post in the Heritage vs. Clink (or whatever) thread:

1. Back cover scans (BCSs) are SOP for serious auctioneers.  Even most amateurs who post their books for sale on eBay provide at least BCSs. Yet, Clink rarely posts BCSs.

2. Every time I've ever emailed Clink for BCSs, I do not get the reply I seek to my first email, and often get no reply at all. I sometimes send a follow-up email with very mixed results at best.

3. Heritage not only provides BCSs as SOP in all Signature auctions, but each lot includes very valuable data for my decision: an adjustable scan enlargement feature, a link to GPA, and prior HA sales data.  Clink generally provides a front cover scan and, basically, a marketing paragraph (or two) for the given copy.

If we level-set from the buyer perspective:  Clink is asking me to give them my hundreds or thousands of dollars over the other available buying choices.  In return, they are providing less than the minimum I expect from any auctioneer for me to make an informed decision.  Further, it's more time/effort for me to try to get Clink to provide this minimum.   In short, I don't view these two entities as competitors.

Really no excuse for not having front and back cover scans on ALL books. I do it on most everything I sell. Anybody who doesn’t is just burning their consigners and leaving money on the table.

I don’t need to go to the big auction houses and mostly don’t. I have dealt with CC a number of times and had nothing but a positive transaction.

I will second that no excuse for not having front and back scans for ALL books

I did a five figure book once... I wanted to do it through CLink but the back cover scans scared me away after I lost in an auction for the book I was looking for.  I wound up buying what I wanted through Heritage.  Now most of my purchases are in the 3-4 figure range.  On four figure books I can tell you that when they are in the office if you can and are nice on the phone sometimes they will pull the book and answer questions about it.

I must admit though, by doing so and calming my questions about a book it led to me purchasing it.   Had they not, I would have walked away which is why I imagine I got a couple of books at well below GPA.

Watching the GS Batman's close some real strong prices (Batman 42 and 52) but a lot of weaker ones (Batman 37, 69, and 89).

I am mostly spectating...

I picked up the Chamber of Chills 1 2.5 though as a novelty... Not seeing anything that super appeals to me.  I should have bid a bit stronger last month on a few things... The Cap Books spread out amongst Heritage and ComicLink was overwhelming... I underbid thinking I would catch something at a discount given the opportunity across the field.

I didn't
