Atomic Age Dell and Four Color comics were often manufactured with highly reflective back covers.  Unfortunately, my scanner does not perform well with glossy whites.  Here are a two examples of what I'll refer to as "scanner fails":

Which scan to use in my listings?  The background area outside the comic (the upper plate of my scanner) is actually snow white.  As you can see, the first scans capture the background color correctly, but the intense brightness of the image can make it difficult to see any back cover blemishes/defects.  The second scans make the white background and comic's back cover appear more grayish than they really are.  However, any defects present on the back cover are easier to see.  When faced with this choice, I generally went with the less-accurate-color-wise but more informative scan.  Just remember that the background plate is snow white.  If the scan makes that background appear off-white or grey, it's doing the same thing to the comic.

I have almost four-dozen issues to list, so this afternoon's session should last about an hour (with lots of opportunities to snag a highly-regarded pedigree for $20 or less ).  Enjoy!
