The late 80's packs are common. Where are these earlier ones hiding? Yes, definitely. One of the Grandfathers of variant collecting (Mark Weiss) began writing about these early pack reprints approximately 15 years ago. Mark is the founder and operator of a charity that puts new comic books into the hands of kids in hospitals (see https://www.comicbooksforkids.org/ ). He was one of the first to report that a Walgreens pack contained Batman 357, DCCP 55, and WF 289. I reached out to Mark to see if he has the Walgreens pack and I will let you know what he tells me. I believe you all are correct when you state those Walgreens packs are rare (I've been looking for them for years and I don't think I've seen one but I've seen lots of those packs that came out in Toys-R-Us and Kay-Bee Toys. By the way, here's some no-month comics to add to the list not previously mentioned on this page: Batman 352, Batman 356, B&B 192, World's Finest 283, 284, and Green Lantern 159. I have the pack that contains the Batman 401 thru 403 "no month" issues. I don't think that pack is too hard to find. But the Batman 401-403 issues came significantly later than the "early" no-month issues you discussed above, so I believe the Batman 401-403 pack is different than the 'ghost' Walgreens pack. The Batman 401-403 pack is a Toys-R-Us pack and following are some photos so you can see it up close: Updated List: Early no-month issues: Batman #352, 353, 356, 357 Blackhawk #252 Brave and the Bold #192, 196 DCCP #51, 54, 55 Detective #519 Green Lantern #159 Superman #377, 379 World’s Finest #283, 284, 288, 289 Later no-month issues: Batman #401, 402, 403 Wonder Woman #1, 2, 3 Edited July 8, 2020 by Cpt Kirk BlowUpTheMoon, Warlord and onlyweaknesskryptonite 2

I've not noticed that there's a version of that pack specific to Toys R Us. Here's the more generic pack of the same 3 comics that was probably available everywhere else, and another version that's on a card that looks very similar to the Toys R Us version but instead says Lionel (and the back has different text and isn't glossy yellow)! There's even a fourth version of this pack that doesn't contain "no month" variants. The packs were proliferating in the late 80s! porcupine48, onlyweaknesskryptonite and Cpt Kirk
Popular Post androolx
I found this World's Finest 283 today in a dollar bin. The missing month (September) caught my eye. The existence of a no-month version of World's Finest 283 is documented above, but an image of one has not yet been posted, so I am posting the image below. Quarantine has made me go through stuff because I'm bored and I'm finding all sorts of phenomenal things that I do not remember buying. Pulled a complete run of Adventures of the Fly in VG out of a box today that hasn't moved in maybe 15 years. When did I get these books? Who knows. Sounds like a great time!I'm looking forward to getting to the back corner boxes I haven't looked at in over a decade.(I do have about fifteen-twenty mag sized boxes sorted,I'm not a complete animal). My problem is always wanting to sit down and read, reread most of the time. Those Archie hero books you found would be a perfect excuse for me to sit oin the winterized veranda drinking soda and reading funnybooks in the sun. Who knows, maybe one day I'll be snooping in an old box and find that Swamp Thing for you Number sixteen, right? Cpt Kirk

Cpt Kirk
A friend of mine sent the image shown below, which is the only one I've ever seen of the elusive Walgreens pack. These packs are supposedly the origin of the DC "no month" variants. The caption to this image from my friend says that Superman 379, B&B 196 and Green Lantern 159 came from this pack. My friend only had this image and cannot find the actual pack itself. If anyone can actually find one of these Walgreens packs, I would love to hear about it.
