This changed over time (as you'd expect), Jimbo, and some of it had to do with what part of the market you were working in just like the per word rate on the fiction.  In the girlie pulps around say 1930, the best artists would get $100 per and the off-brands might pay $50.  $100 is a pretty common number I hear from the 30s, but it's possible some artists might have had a better deal (though I doubt too much better).  My guess is that even the masters above like Baumhofer, Ward, Saunders, Rozen, et. al. weren't making much more or even that depending on the employer.
