Smokin' Sigh, getting over the underbidder woes. One of these Bolles grails that comes around never so often. *I've* certainly never gotten a chance at it until tonight, and I've only seen two other issues of the Bolles run of this series at auction (but I did find some of evidence of an appearance or two on eBay of other Bolles issues at Worthpoint). Heritage has never offered a single issue, I don't own any of the Bolles issues. I took a strong swing, though, which is more than I can say about the never seen one earlier this year. The next one in the run isn't too shabby, either, purrrrr I missed a *never seen* Bolles grail (by anyone, afaik) earlier this year. I'll be thinking about that one for a long, long, long time. CGC does grade them, and they are really fun due to the cover art being so wonderful. It's pulp related because of the Enoch Bolles cover art (who was prolific in the pulps as well as a mainstay at Film Fun), but it is solidly a magazine. Slick pages, Hollywood content, published by Dell after Delacorte bought the magazine from Leslie-Judge. Comics fans may be surprised to know that the most excellent George Carlson did strips for the magazine in the teens. Unless I'm mistaken, CGC has been slabbing Film Funs even before they stared doing pulps (and interestingly also slabbed girlie pulps before other types, maybe because the saddle-stitching is so similar to comics). This one for example was graded back in 2021 (not mine) I've got some Film Fun but really not too many considering how big of a Bolles fan I am (and the fact that the Hollywood material is great, too). It's a neat magazine because so many copies exist even if early copies are hard to find or any particular issue might give you fits in tracking down. And then there's the question of finding "in grade" for the sticklers. I ran across this copy of Film Fun #590 tonight while browsing the bay, and could no longer resist! Since the book was a MyComicShop offering, I purchased it directly from their website, and saved myself some $$. Here's the auction pics, borrowed from online. I just hope the book looks as nice in hand as it appears in the pictures.
