Wertham apparently had a real "thing" for the Human Torch or maybe he just anticipated the bonfires!

Those two ladies look exactly like the librarians in my local public library as a kid. I used to be freaked out when they would take out the card from the books I wanted to check out to write in the return date with crooked gnarled fingers that looked like witches!! The only books on comics in that library (an Andrew Carnegie library) was the 1948 edition of "The Comics." I was angry to only find one chapter, and a dismissive one at that on comic books! A few years later I discovered that the County library in our town had a much wider selection of books on comics including Dr. Wertham's classic tome. I devoured them all.
