The ‘Selling too soon’ Thread

Nothing recent but I did sell some books years ago at various VCCs that I should have kept. Stuff like a Batman 251 that the buyer got slabbed at 9.6. Sold HOM 92, IM 55, and a bunch of Atlas war books that are now seeing much higher prices. Oh well, such is life and in the those years I have found some stuff that has increased nicely.

I'm a quasi-dealer, so this stuff was just inventory I sold to finance my collection, house, etc, but still hurts to think about.

Batman 171 9.6: sold $4,000, now worth $40,000

FF 52 9.6: sold $4,000, now worth $25,000

TOS 39 8.0: sold $10,000, now worth $30,000

Fantastic 3 7.0 Ext Resto: sold $8,000, now worth $20,000 or more

Flash 139 9.6: sold $2,500, now worth $15,000?

ASM 1 7.5: sold for $8,000 in cash/trade, now worth $30,000

I am sure there are many, many more. It's how it goes when you buy/sell.

I have been mostly buying lately and haven't sold anything recently.  But my two most regrettable sales were a bunch of Byrne SS books and an X-Men 1.  I way undersold all those books compared to what they go for now, especially the XM 1.  However as has been pointed out its what you do with the money, still I would love to have those books back and hold onto them.

NYX 3 for $7.99. Not recent. But it still hurts. At least I sold my other copy for $50 (I think here). Thank goodness I misplaced the third copy and never sold it.

I feel your pain, I had a 9.8 that I sold for under a hundred bucks :tonofbricks:

I've shared it a bunch back in like 2017

I traded at Christmas

A ASM #129 in cgc 4.5

AND

Silver Surfer#4 cgc 8.0 cream to off white that slid a bit in the case

For a hulk vs wolverine statue at the LCS, priced at $750

In the past couple of years, I’ve definitely sold two copies of Giant Size X-Men 1 “too soon”.  But one was in order to increase the down payment on our new house, and the other was to help fuel a bargain basement stock binge back in March.

Ultimately, I can’t complain about either decision.
