Corallas
There is a book I am considering purchasing that has white out on the cover , i asked the seller and he said it was a date on the cover that someone covered with white out . My guess is this will grade as restored ? It looks also like there is a bit of white out by the spine too but not sure based on pictures . Will this grade as a restored book and could I remove the whiteout ? If i did manage to remove the whiteout would the book grade as restored still? Thanks

Thanks Honestly, you are better off not buying the book if you want it graded since the answer could potentially be yes to all in the worst case scenario. theCapraAegagrus and silverseeker
10centcomics
Well this is a very specific question but luckily I have the answer for you. I actually have a book with whiteout scraped off from the cover! (it was covering a pedigree marking) There are still flecks of white left on the cover and it's a Universal label book. I would imagine a book with whiteout would still get a Universal label too? (unless it was acting as CT on a white cover?) Corallas
theCapraAegagrus
If the whiteout is on a white area, my educated guess is that it'll be labeled Restored. Corallas

Yes this was my idea , scrape off the white out to return the book to a non restored condition then submit for grading .
Corallas
Just now, Corallas said: So the whiteout was scraped off completely right? 10centcomics
Oh you should have a professional do it and not try it yourself Corallas
Keys_Collector
What's the book? Depends on what it is and the price that you can obtain it at.
comicginger1789
If the book is a very valuable book, I would have an expert scrape off. Or, experiment myself by applying white out to junkers in my junker bin and see if I can remove safely so that I felt confident I could do myself (without damaging the book). As for grade, what has been said seems likely. If used on a white area, it is possible a restored label would be given. If just done to cover up pen, it may get blue and be treated as a defect. If done to cover up pen ON a white background well that might go either way....
