Why does CGC refer to this as a Historic Atomic radiation cover?

Please let me know if further proof is required in order to get this abomination against humanity corrected.

Yup.  It’s appalling.  Comic book science is always spot on, and a rare blemish like this one is unforgivable, even decades on.

Perhaps a simple example of ‘didn’t do the research’, or no access to information on Fermi’s then cutting edge and war-restricted nuclear reactor technology, and especially not the Manhattan Project.

In any case, guesswork which ended up way off, but inadvertently created a cool cover instead.

All the facts point to it simply being a very cool cover of an oil well fire.

The year that the comic was printed.  The pipe coming up from the ground with fire shooting out of it.  The multiple oil derricks in the background surrounded by thick black smoke.  The men dressed in fire proximity suits.  Nothing about it suggests Atomic radiation.

Other than what Kav already pointed out.........someone at a later point in history......after Atomic radiation was common knowledge......decided that it looks like these men are in radiation suits and declared that's what the cover is dealing with.

Overstreet just screwed the pooch on the facts and CGC got their misinformation from Overstreet.

Comic book science being wrong is one thing.  Future historians of comics like Overstreet mislabeling an oil fire as an atomic energy situation is another.

It is quite simple, Newton first expressed it in closed form equations

Historic Atomic radiation cover = $$$

Typical oil well fire != $$$

Is that where Einstein got his equation?

Yup. That’s forgivable.

But, there are limits. Honour demands seppuku if it gets this bad.

Let's not get crazy.

If the person responsible would agree to cut off one of his fingers, I think history (accurate history) would be satisfied.

I think that would be a fair and sensible compromise.

And before anyone pulls their pants up to their chest and secures them with their black belt in Google-Fu.

Yes......Einstein didn't actually say this.......but if Overstreet can make sh*t up......so can I.

Complaining about Overstreet's error in this regard and the repetition of that error by CGC and auction houses is a rite of passage for GA collectors. The next step is realizing that Action #29 is not actually the first Lois Lane cover for the title.
