No, I'm not being rude or personal. This has to be one of my worst condition comics, but it was only one pound plus postage in around 2010 so a bargain! Bits fall off it every time I look at it. It's got comic dandruff.

I've posted this issue on a couple of forums before. Here it is again.

I call this my "Alaskan Door Mat" copy.

I got this when I was 11-12 (86-87) for $25 in a NM antique shop.

A grade school friend of mine also had a copy which looked nearly identical. He had moved from Alaska and said his father found his copy being used as a door mat in some shack or igloo. Hence it's nickname.

Here's two more.

Both of these were my uncle's. I grew up with them as they were in a box of comicbooks and coloring books and activities meant for the grandkids at the old farmhouse. Late Bronze and Copper books were added to this box as we read comics as kids. Later, in my teens, I was visiting the grandparents and recognized these issues as minor keys. I took them home with me and they've been part of my collection for over 30 years. I've never been interested in upgrading them.

Last one from the SA.

Spine is mostly split and the cover is detached. I've had it over 30 years and it's always had the worse acidic smell. I doubt I've ever looked at it more than a handful of times.

The FF1 takes the prize! I love that it even has a nickname. Shame it has interior damage too but it's a survivor. The iron man and Thor, I like that you aren't tempted to upgrade them. So long as it's readable and recognisable (and won't transmit anything nasty to the other books,) it takes its place in the collection. The Spidey 11 presents ok. It's their origin (as in how the comic came to be in your collection) that makes them special too. Such an important part of collecting, for me. (Although I am also enjoying picking up as many Gene Day MOKFs as I can right now. I stopped collecting for a while and missed them at the time.)

I think my cousin gave me this Nick Fury when I was 6 or 7. That book has traveled a lot with me but still hanging in there.

It's not so much about the playground as when you get home and wipe your feet!

Here is about the last book from my childhood collection. Yes, my mom did that...This one somehow survived. As you can see, it was "well loved" by about every kid in the neighborhood.

Long since upgraded, but this is my first copy, taped, restapled, worn but complete, well loved and mine forever.

It's complete, I can actually read it without worrying about depreciating it, and I can actually say I've got a complete Legion run because of it.  One of my most treasured books.

Even lower grade than the Adventure, but when I got this in my early 20's it taught me that I could actually own key books.
