If it's not clear, my thesis is, that American sci fi comics [especially EC], had a huge, arguably under-acknowledged worldwide influence right up to the present day.

But also that sci fi was very different, depending on the culture in which it was produced, some of which was really quite bonkers! Humanoid Press is a case in point - especially the Jodorowsky material.

Mind you, the spider that evolved into a human femme fatale in one Captain Comet story would be hard to beat in the bonkers department!

Incidentally, PSArtbooks have reprinted lots of Golden/Atomic Age sci fi. The reproduction is not great, but they are relatively cheap. Ironically, its DC  and Marvel née Atlas who lag behind, whereas many now-defunct publishers material has been collected!

To me, in comic books, the classic Flash Gordon stuff by Alex Raymond is way up there.

These don’t have any of his covers but the complete interiors are.

The interior of #4 has an ad for the rare subscription issue of #5.

A new GA sci-fi thread and I’ve been missing it! 

Planet Comics is definitely number 1. I love other early, pre-war sci-fi runs too although they were often short.

Science Comics has amazing cover art.

There is also Superworld Comics, Rocket Comics, Miracle Comics, and others.

EC all day, every day!  I loved the artwork.  The stories were kind of cheesy with the punchline at the end.

I've only got a couple early issues of Mystery in Space... but they're the issues with Frazetta and Finlay art, respectively.  Two of the most beautifully drawn SF comics ever.  Sorry I don't have a page from the story in #1 to share as well.

I will be merciful, and not re-post all my Planets for the umpteenth time, but here are my Whitman covers. [NB, I do have a feeling #65 is an uncredited Whitman cover, or possibly a mash up with him involved, but that could just be wishful thinking! Anyway, note the similarity in the spaceman suits on the covers of #65 and #66!]

I've always wondered how both DC and Fawcett wound up doing adaptations of "Destination Moon".
