June 1962: Greatest Month for the Silver Age of Marvel Comics?

Amazing Fantasy 15, Journey Into Mystery 83, and Tales to Astonish 35 hit the newsstands in June of 1962. Is there a more significant month in terms of keys appearing at the newsstand during the Silver Age of Marvel Comics than June 1962?

Best,

John

Another great month for Silver Age collectors, although not approaching the magnificence that is the June 1962 publication date, is September 1963 publication date when both Avengers #1 and X-Men #1 hit the stands.  Given the way distribution was done, that put them both on the newsstand in June of that year.  What a great way to start the summer buying those two books!

The comics market was much more diversified back in those days. Superheroes were in the minority by far. Looking at the MikesAmazingWorld Newsstand listings for that month, I counted 13 different titles published by Archie Comics that month. War, Westerns, Cartoons, Romance, TV shows and Movies; the genres were all over the place. I counted 21 non-Archie Romance titles; that is just amazing! In spite of comic books being regarded as a nerdy guy's medium, at least back in 1962, the proportion of titles directed at a female audience of many age groups tells a different story.
