I was told the images were intentionally darkened so the defects would show up better.

I have been informed that the spreadsheet doesn't calculate grades above a 9.8  So, we will only be using books that grade from .5 to 9.8  I will revise the rules to show this.

I'll agree with that... seeing the little Lulu in its slab after the last round looked like a different book.
