Imagine all the collections you miss by having a blanket policy of referring EVERY collection that walks in your door to another shop.  Are there any dealers here who do the same?  Because that's insane.

A lot of stores don't have much of a back issue section, and have more back issue inventory than they can handle.

I don't know how a comic shop could have any inventory if it turned down every single offer to sell it a collection.

they dont sell old back issues there.  moderns and magic cards games and toys.  just not their wheelhouse.

Ha!  Such a classic Kav-ism.  A second-hand anecdote that is unbelievable on the surface but with more context is irrelevant.  Love you, baby!

Well, here’s an update to my original post.  I didn’t go to the individual’s home to look at comics at that time…call it an over-abundance of caution.  Today, they have another ad up for a yard sale instead…including comics.  Maybe their first attempt didn’t go well, so they are trying again.

So I’m going to scope it out this morning, maybe get there before the sale starts.  The seller still had a photo showing an old western comic with a double cover…this I must see.  I’ll post more updates afterwards.  If I don’t, I’ll see you on the ‘other side’. ☠️👻💀

lol

Crazy for a shop to not buy books.

I work at a shop part time and for the last 6 months they've bought collections.

Not the best most of the time and there a times they are declined on.

Here is an example of books from one collection.

I ended up grabbing myself the pre bat Det, Supes 7, .Captain America and I also picked up a low grade raw supes 23.

Another collection came in, no boards in 3 boxes, not comic boxes. Looked like mostly Sad Sack, DC war and Archie's. There were a small amount of Marvels like 5 spideys, 5 hulk's, A X-Men and 5 Ghost Rider related comics.

After going thru the boxes I picked out some keys, not high grade thet are about Gd-F/VF

I ended up with the HOS 🙄 Too much temptation I find working there.

Good luck Galen if you check out the comic books 👍

Perhaps they didn’t have the money. I can’t imagine anyone walking in with those slabbed GA books and wanting to wholesale them.

My local store gave up back issues some time ago. I remember being there one day when a guy came in with a large box of unbagged SA. They didn’t even look at them. I met the guy in the parking lot and bought them. A couple days later, I went over to his house and bought the rest. A VERY nice score!

A collector with those golden age books probably wouldn't wholesale them out.

This was a deceased estate so the family just wanted to sell them very quickly.

Another deceased estate came in with a Hulk collection. Issue 6, TTA and hulk 102-250 with doubles.

And another estate had a Spidey collection with a run 14-250 including doubles like two 129s

All the keys from these collections were bought up over a month.

There's another lcs I frequent that don't do new books, just vintage books.

He does very well for himself by doing just that.

These two shops is where I buy the majority of my back issues from.

But if there are lcs in your area that don't buy back issues, then there is a chance that estate sales and collections that have been sitting will be offered on craigslist ect. Where you can do very well. 👍
